Gary Cross Obituary

Gary Curtis Cross, aged 84, died peacefully in his sleep on September 7, 2025. Gary was born in Cle Elum, WA on October 22, 1940 to Lawrence and Garnet Cross. He was raised, alongside his younger sister, Pamela Olson, in the Snoqualmie/North Bend areas of Washington. Gary spent time serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper, and even at the ripe old age of 75, decided to do one final jump. He eventually made his way to Longview, where he would meet the love of his life, Kathy Titland. They were married November 22, 1969, and he, Kathy, and son, Tim moved to the home where they would spend the rest of their days. They went on to have two more kids, Kirstin and Kaci, and proceeded to live a fairly quiet and fulfilling life. Gary worked as a saw filer for Long Bell Cabinets for many years, and ended his working career at the paper mill located in Wauna, Or. He was an outdoor enthusiast, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. He was an excellent marksman and was a member of the Lone Oak Gun Club. He was active in his kids' lives, and was a very proud coach of his daughter's soccer team for many years. After Kathy passed in 2008, he spent most of his time socializing with friends at the Columbia Inn in Kalama. Up until his death, you could find Gary sitting in the garage with his son Tim, and various friends and neighbors enjoying each other's company. Gary is survived by his sister, Pam (Larry), son Tim (Michele), daughter Kirstin (Gary), daughter Kaci (Bryan), and three grandkids (Justin, Colton, and Makena). A family friend wrapped up his essence in a few poignant words. "Gary was as close to perfectly happy as anyone I ever met, didn't ask for much, and always appreciated whatever he had." Gary's quick wit and humorous stories will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Papa. A celebration of life will be held on October 22, 2025 at the Columbia Inn in Kalama from 4:00-6:00.

Yesterday

I have so many fond memories of the whole family & especially Gary. From his whistling that the parakeet even learned to his unique hilarious nicknames he had for us to his rhyming tunes he would sing. He always made me laugh & was always kind even when he caught us smoking in the shack. I will never forget him & the impact he had on me growing up
