June Ham Obituary

June Hazel Ham, 87, of Kelso, died May 24, 2008, in Longview.

She was born June 1, 1920, in Kelso, to George and Fhilena (Caron) Lafever.

A lifelong local resident, she graduated from Lower Columbia College and took many additional college courses.

June and Harold Ham were married in 1940 in Kelso. He survives her.

Over the years, besides working as a housewife, June was an active community volunteer, especially with the YMCA, Red Cross and Hospice. She was also a YMCA member and enjoyed playing women's volleyball there.

She also volunteered with her church and at local nursing homes. June enjoyed gardening, traveling (snowbirding for 10 years) and crafts.

Loved ones remember her as an active and very energetic "worker bee" who was always learning something new.

Survivors also include daughter Sandra Rotschy of Woodland; son Michael Ham of Castle Rock; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Lee "Nick" Ham in 1965.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2065, Longview, WA 98632.

Dear Sandy, Bob & family,
We are so sorry your time with your precious Mother has come to an end. It is never easy to let go of "Mom", even if they are ready to go. I still think I will pick up the phone, or run over to see Mom, or ask her advice about something and have to remind myself that I'll have to wait untill I see her holding out her arms to me in heaven. Remember all the good things, and let go of the "not so good", and always honor her. The love of her life is still here and the best thing you can do for your Mom is care for him as much as you can. You are in our prayers. God bless..

I will forever remember the love of life that Aunt June echoed to all that knew her. Memories of a young girl were swimming at G'ma and G'pa Ham's with "waterbabies" Aunt June, Sandy and Mike. I am so blessed that I was able to visit the extended Ham family in 2006. Our prayers are with you all.

Sorry for your loss. Your Mom was always so good to me in my youth. It was nice to see June and Harold a couple of years ago. I still think of Nicky and the good times we shared so long ago.

We are sorry to read of June's passing. We had the pleasure of living next door to the Hams for more than 25 years. June was a wonderful neighbor and a good friend. Our sincere sympathy is extended to Harold, Mike, and Sandy.

I remember June well, lived behind them on Burcham St. in the 40's and early 50's. She was a great lady with so many talents.
