Marcus Monge

1932 - 2026

Marcus Theodore "Ted" Monge, 93, of Longview, Washington, passed away March 2, 2026.

Born November 28, 1932, Ted spent most of his life in Longview and was well known in the community for his kindness and friendly spirit. He served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War as a member of the Seabees construction battalion, spending much of his deployment on Pohnpei Island.

After his military service, he married Mildred "Millie" Madsen and they raised one son, Chris. Ted spent more than 25 years working as a logger in the Pacific Northwest near Mount St. Helens. After his logging truck was buried during the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, he recovered it from the ash, sold the truck, and retired.

In retirement, Ted enjoyed traveling, fishing in Alaska with his nephew Butch Johnson, and spending time outdoors with his family. He was often seen riding his bicycle around Longview visiting friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Millie and his son Chris.

He is survived by his grandson Marc Monge; great-granddaughters Keira, Erin, and Caitlin; and his sister Adina.

A memorial service will be held March 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Community of Christ Church, 2020 Delaware St., Longview, WA. All are welcome. Coffee, tea, and cake will follow in the church basement.
