God came down from heaven to present his son, Monte, with angel wings and then guided him back to his new home in heaven sweet heaven. Monte Stephen Hartshorn was born on 4/6/1961 to Jeanne (Davidson) Hartshorn and Stephen Carl Hartshorn in Longview, WA. He is survived by his wife, Cathy (Belenski) Hartshorn. "We were friends, best friends and shared a love for a lifetime in 33 years". Monte is survived by 3 Nephews, Jacob J. Hartshorn, Stephen C. Hartshorn and Kyle T. Belenski. His Mom, Jeanne, his Father Stephen, and Brother Jeff Preceded him in death. He graduated from Mark Morris High School in 1979. He graduated from Central in 1983 with a bachelor's degree. Monte's childhood was an adventure, climbing trees, hiking, biking and horseback riding. Monte was a member of St. Paul Lutheran. He participated in church activities, and he enjoyed engaging with the congregation. Monte's hobbies were reading and collecting books on naval history and science fiction, gambling in Reno, relaxing in Cannon Beach, snorkeling in Hawaii, and tending to his roses. Monte lived his life with integrity. He believed a handshake meant your word. Monte always prided himself on being available for his family, friends and co-workers. That's something that made him very happy. Monte liked to recall his Boy Scout days, canoeing and hiking at Mt. St. Helens, and earning the Eagle Scout badge. Monte began working at the CRPO as a rural letter carrier in 1988. His career highlight was moving up to the position of district representative for the NRLCA. He spent 36 years working for a craft he truly cared about. He was a proud Union man. At Christmas Monte's special talent shined brightly. He put on his secret Santa hat and answered all the letters addressed to Santa Claus at the CRPO. Joy filled each letter as well as Monte's heart. Monte volunteered his time at Mark Morris High School helping to coach the boys' swimming and water polo team. Monte delighted in the camaraderie of working with the boys and head coach. Monte Loved hugs, so in memory of him, share a hug with someone you love today. In remembrance of Monte's mission to teach, educate and Mentor. A (WARLCA) scholarship is being funded to help someone follow in his footsteps.
