Patrick Martin Obituary

Patrick Martin

May 13, 1951 - January 2, 2025

Patrick "Pat" Regan Martin, 73, of Castle Rock, Wash., passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, after a courageous 10-year battle with cancer. Born on May 13, 1951, in Grandview, Wash., Pat spent his final weeks surrounded by love under the care of his family and hospice.

Pat is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sonja Martin; his children, Joanna and Rachelle Martin; his grandchildren, Eleanor Boyd, Adam Martin, and Abigail Martin; and his siblings, Lee (Patricia) Martin, Sabrina Jackson, and Mark (Tammy) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nona Martin and Harold (Mitzi) Martin; his siblings, Victor Martin and Kaycee (Donny) Raymond; and his children, Bethany and Evan Martin.

Faith was the cornerstone of Pat's life. He met Sonja at church, a moment that marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership and 47-year marriage rooted in shared devotion. Pat actively participated in multiple churches and was even a Christian School principal. His unwavering faith provided him strength during life's challenges and comforted him as he prepared to meet his Heavenly Father.

Professionally, Pat worked as a union carpenter. But beyond his work, Pat was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who cherished his family deeply. He was also extremely passionate about both learning and teaching. He was an avid reader, a passion he instilled in his kids with weekly trips to the library throughout their childhood. It was a regular occurrence on family vacations for the number of books packed by everyone to be three times higher than the number of people attending. He was also known to create math story problems at the dinner table to quiz and teach his kids and then later his grandkids. It was through his rigorous investigation of possible treatments, willingness to undergo a variety of treatments that would help advance prostate cancer research and stubbornness that allowed him to live for 10 years after receiving a stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

Pat's legacy of faith, love and passion for learning will continue to inspire all who knew him. A funeral service with an onsite reception to honor Pat's life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Lakeside Event Center, 811 20th Ave., Longview, Wash.

I always remember Pat being such an encouragement to my early faith. He helped gather me into the "lively stones" fitting together for God's House. We all have a purpose and both Pat & Soni are treasures in my life.

So sorry to hear this!
Pat was a great Man. I will miss running into him. I worked with him in the early 90´s. Every time we ran into one another it was like old times. It was aways a joy to catch up with him.
Gone way too early but left a great legacy through faith and family.
Sincerely,
John
