Sidney (Joe) J. Barry Jr.
May 15, 1945 - Feb. 5, 2023
Retired Police Officer Joe Barry passed away February 5, 2023 at Delaware Plaza following a long-term illness. He was born on May 15, 1945 in Fort Smith Arkansas to Sidney J. and Eva (Ware) Barry. Joe grew up in Longview and was a graduate of R.A. Long High School Class of 1963. He was a Viet Nam Veteran serving as a flight mechanic and training instructor in the Air Force. Joe joined the Longview Police Department in 1970 and proudly served the community until retirement. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Deborah (Montgomery), sons Michael and Patrick, ond one grandson, Phoenix.
Memorial Service March 11, 2023 at Longview Community Church 11:00 a.m. Private internment Longview Memorial Park.

What a loss.Joe was a great example to me as I was first learning about the job. Good attitude and always earning his pay, not a shirker. He liked people and was always eager and willing to help them.

I was searching for information on Grandma Vera E Barry and the next thing I knew I am sending Condolences to my cousin Joe´s family. So sorry for the loss. I am Kay, born in Ft Smith. This was the first time Joe and I met at Grandma's and the last time we saw/communicated with each other. I am the daughter of Joe´s Aunt, Blanche M. Torres (Barry).

So sad to hear about Joe´s passing.
He was a pleasure to work with. Always taking his calls promptly, proactive and rarely complained. He was a good LEO. I ran into him several times after he retired and he was always cheerful and ready to catch up on life. Thank you for the memories Joe. You will be missed

This is a real loss to our community, he was good man. Joe was genuine and just had a natural ability to connect with young people having a profoundly positive impact on them. He sure did with me, he was a man I was drawn too, looked up too, and learned from in my high school years, he was a great example. God thank you for Joe, bless him and his family.

I always loved riding shotgun with you. the city of Longview was very lucky to have you guarding over them, keeping everyone safe. you taught me so much about being a peace officer. you will be missed. my condolences to your family!
