Virginia Wechner Obituary

Virginia Lee Wechner passed away Oct. 18, 2008, at a local nursing home.

She was born March 25, 1926, in Portland to Claude D. and Cora K. Howes, educated in Portland public schools and worked in several clerical positions in that area.

She married William B. Wechner in 1952 and moved to Longview in 1962. She is survived by her husband at home; two sons, David L. Wechner of Vancouver and Bradley L. and his wife, Karen Wechner of Veneta, Ore.; a grandson, Ryan Dittmer of Vancouver; and a sister, Anne Hughes of Arlington, Ore.

Virginia was a homemaker, involved in many activities with friends and family. She loved golfing, gardening, traveling and baking, especially fancy Christmas cookies generously shared with others. She enjoyed senior aerobics at the YMCA, volunteered many hours at St. John Medical Center, taught English as a second language and served as a Cub Scout den mother.

She was a member of Longview Community Church, active in Women's Fellowship and Ruth Circle.

Virginia was much loved and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Longview Community Church. Private interment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery. Columbia Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donation to the Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632 or the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 27088, Seattle, WA 27088.

Virginia was a special lady. She was a good golfer and was a member of the Mint Valley Nine Holers until she was unable to join us. I will miss her. My sympathy goes to the family.
