Albert Cerrone Obituary

Albert J. "Al" Cerrone, 82, of Shrewsbury and Delray Beach, Florida, died Monday, July 2nd, in Christopher House in Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Anna M. (Sera) Cerrone; three sons, Alan J. Cerrone and his wife, Linda of Mt. Airy, Maryland, David P. Cerrone and his wife, Judy of Shrewsbury and Paul A. Cerrone and his wife, Mary Grace of Shrewsbury; three sisters, Catherine R. Lemerise of Auburn, Helen J. Tyan of Worcester and Natalie Aspero of Shrewsbury; a brother, Anthony Cerrone of Worcester; 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Tara, Angela, Christopher, Paul Jr., and Daniel; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Hailey; also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Breault of Worcester.

Mr. and Mrs. Cerrone celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 6th. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Antonio and Theresa (Martocci) Cerrone and had lived in Shrewsbury for 65 years.

Mr. Cerrone had worked for the Shrewsbury Highway Department for 35 years, retiring in 1988. During the 35 years he served various positions within the Department and retired as the Highway Superintendent, Tree Warden and Pesticide Supervisor. Al served three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Wasp in the South Pacific.

He was a member of St. Anne's Church and a former member of the Adelphi Council of the Knights of Columbus # 4181, both in Shrewsbury. Al was also a member of the Massachusetts Highway Association; Worcester County Highway Superintendent's Association; American Public Works Association; Worcester County Tree Warden Association; Worcester County Tree Warden and Foresters Association; Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission; and he was chairman of the Executive Board of the Transportation Planning Advisory Group. He also was a member of the Men's Friends Club at the Shrewsbury Senior Center and the Greendale YMCA Men's Club.

Al loved to play golf, a good game of cards and dominos. His family was his whole world and he will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Al's family on Friday, July 6th from 4-7 p.m. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 7th at 10 A.M. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
