Alexandros Kamizirides Obituary
Southbridge - Alexandros V. Kamizirides, 76, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 31st., in the Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, with his whole family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Despina (Gregoriadou) Kamizirides; his children, William, Jason, Nick and his partner Kim, Elpida and her husband Nick, and Christina and her husband Anastasios. He had an extraordinary love for his grandchildren, Amanda, Alexandra, Magdalena, Leonidas and Sofia, and was looking forward to the newest addition coming soon. He also leaves his sister, Eleni Kamizirides; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in the U.S. and in Greece. He was born in Komninades, Kastoria, Greece the son of William and Elpida (Lambrianidou) Kames.
Alex came to the United States in Dec. 1956 with his parents and sister to an unknown country from Kastoria, Greece. No one knew the language and he was placed into the 2nd grade and learned the language by studying a Greek-English dictionary. He got his first job here in Southbridge at Billis' Café and went on to graduate from Cole Trade High School as a draftsman in 1965.
Alex had many passions from owning his own machine shop along side his father, an auto garage, a pizza place, and then buying the Golden Greek Restaurant in Southbridge in 1986. Alex always saw himself as that 12-year-old boy that grew up with nothing and fearing for his family's life living in Greece during a time of war. He worked hard all of his life, provided for his family, but always lived his life to make sure to "save something for tomorrow". He will forever be loved, and his memory eternal.
Calling hours for Alex will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd, from 5:00 to 7:00pm in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Due to Covid-19 restrictions his funeral service in the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Southbridge, will be private. Burial will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Southbridge.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 25, Southbridge, MA 01550.
