Ann Murphy Obituary

Ann Murphy, 85

SUTTON - Ann (Stockwell) Murphy, 85, passed away Saturday, August 1st, surrounded by her family.

Ann's husband, William H. "Bill" Murphy, Jr. died in 2011. Ann leaves two daughters, Lynn O'Neal and her husband, Robert and Lee Wence and her husband, Ronald all of Sutton; four grandchildren, Meghan Cobb and her husband, Zack of Newport, RI, Bill Wence and his wife, Danielle of Sutton, Brandon O'Neal of Sutton and Rachel Wence of Worcester; four great grandchildren, Ella Rose and Liam Cobb and Anna and Benjamin Wence; a sister- in-law, Carol Schroeder; nieces, nephews and close friends. She is predeceased by her sisters, Catherine Gaucher and Alice Paletta-Reynolds and a brother, William Stockwell Jr.

Ann grew up on a dairy farm, "Stockwell's Farm", daughter of William and Mabel (Brigham) Stockwell. Ann was very proud of her roots. She was a graduate of Sutton High School and attended UMass Boston with a major in retail. Ann worked many years for Filene's in Boston. Ann and Bill were longtime owners and operators of A&W Murphy Transportation, Inc. for special needs children, retiring in 1991. She was also the organist and choir director at St. Brigid Church for 25 years.

Ann loved to reminisce about her past and growing up on a busy, working farm. Ann was always up for playing cards, games, scrabble and puzzles. Earlier years she was an avid bowler and golfer. Ann was a wonderful cook and loved to prepare meals for her family and friends. Company was always welcome. She enjoyed spending winters in Jensen Beach, Florida and summers here at the farm. Ann touched so many lives with her wisdom, talents, patience and empathy. Many turned to her for counsel and advice. She will be forever missed.

Ann's graveside service will be held at Noon on Friday, August 21st in Howard Cemetery, 15 Armsby Road in Sutton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Sutton Senior Center, 19 Hough Road, Sutton, MA 01590.
