Annie Kachajian, 89

WORCESTER - Annie (Tarzian) Kachajian, 89, of Worcester, died peacefully Christmas night, at home surrounded by her family.

Her husband of 39 years, Edward S. Kachajian, died in 1991. She leaves three daughters, Christine A. McNulty and her husband Thomas of West Springfield, Rosanne Shea and her husband Joseph of Worcester, and Diane Ward and Larry Woolson of Worcester, a son Edward A. Kachajian and his wife Karina of Shrewsbury; eight grandchildren, Emily and Andrew McNulty, Joshua Shea and his wife Lena, Christopher Shea and his wife Rebecca, Julieann and Michael Shea, and Krista and Alex Kachajian; a great-grandson Brendan Shea; a brother John Tarzian of Somerville, a sister Maryanne Tarzian of Worcester; nieces Deidre Tarzian and Rachel Golden; and a devoted nephew George Zakarian.

Her granddaughter Jennifer M. Shea died in 2007. She was also predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Golden and her brother Jacob Tarzian.

Mrs. Kachajian was born in Worcester, the daughter of Sarkis and Alice Tarzian, and lived in Worcester all her life.

She was a graduate of Commerce High School where she humorously went by the nick name "Me Tarzan." She was also a graduate of the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She later earned a bachelor's degree in mental health and a master's degree in counseling from Anna Maria College in Paxton.

Mrs. Kachajian was a registered nurse and worked most of her career as an emergency surgical operating room nurse at City Hospital.

She was a lifelong active member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour in Worcester, where she was a past president of the Ladies Guild. She headed the committee to make Choreg for several years.

Annie loved her family and greatly enjoyed their company, especially her time with grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday December 29, at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. There will be a calling hour at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday prior to the service. The burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.

The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester, is directing funeral arrangements.

Please know you were blessed to have such a caring, warm and loving mother. Her smile would light up the room, and her generosity was unsurpassed. My visits to her home were always met with warmth, welcome and love. She is the embodiment of what a true Christian is, and I am assured she will find eternal rest in God's everlasting Kingdom.

I worked with Annie in the 1980's in surgery at the former Worcester City Hospital. She was a very kind and knowledgeable woman who was my mentor. She taught me alot about life.My thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this sorrowful time.She is in my prayers.May she rest in eternal peace. Heaven is gaining a true angel.
