Anthony Giovanucci Obituary

Anthony A. Giovanucci, 85

Worcester - Anthony A."Tony" Giovanucci passed away peacefully at Rose Monahan Hospice Home Worcester MA , Monday February 16th 2015, after a short period of declining health, with devoted family members by his side.

He was born in Worcester, November 24, 1929 to Ferdinand and Mary (Tarallo) Giovannucci. He graduated from Commerce HS, and went on to earn his BA and MA from Assumption College, both in Worcester. He was married to his late wife Lucia "Lucy" T. (D'Ostuni) Giovanucci for 59 years.

He lived in the city he loved, Worcester, for most of his life. For many years, he owned and operated his own travel agency, Seven Services, and along with his wife and their numerous friends and relatives, traveled around the world via land, sea, and air, enjoying new places, meeting new people, and treasuring return visits to favorite locations. He also worked as an Insurance Fraud Investigator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, retiring at the young age of 77!

Tony was a proud member of Saint Stephen's parish, the Knights of Columbus and the YMCA/YWCA. He also enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship of many residents of Grafton Hill, Shrewsbury Street and Colony Retirement Complex in Worcester.

Anthony, "Tony ,Uncle Tony, Papa" never missed a family event or function-from traveling to Las Vegas in celebration of his grandson Nicholas's wedding, proudly attending his grandson Brian's military graduation, and attending every one of his three great grand children's birthday parties or performances or a simple backyard cookout with his nephew and niece in Shrewsbury.

He personified strong family values and never refused to help a family member in need. For that matter, never refused anyone in need. Wherever he went, Tony was known as someone to be counted on for a chat, a political debate, a laugh, and genuine caring. He loved to cook, the beach, as well as fishing, the family dogs, and all those who were dear to him.

Tony leaves behind his devoted daughter and son in law Donna and Thomas Gervais of Holden: his cherished grandsons Nicholas A. Gervais and wife Monica of Brunswick, Ohio, Brian J. Gervais, and wife Erin of Worcester, adored great grandchildren Tyler, Layla and Mariah Gervais of Worcester. He was looking forward to the birth of his fourth great grandchild, due in May.

He also leaves his sister, Christine "Dolly" Ecklund, brothers Hector and Robert; sister in law Clara Errede, and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Tony also leaves his dear friend, Elena Ferraro and a large social circle of friends.

In addition to his wife Lucy, Tony was predeceased by brothers, Ferdinand Jr., Angelo, Daniel, and Alphonse Giovannucci, brothers in law Alfred Errede and Leonard and Salvatore D'Ostuni.

In keeping with Anthony's wishes there will be no calling hours and burial will be private. The Giovanucci family wishes to thank the physicians and staff of Reliant Medical Group, Saint Vincent Hospital nursing and support staff of 34 North, and Rose Monahan Hospice Home for the support, care, compassion and comfort given during his illness. He will be forever in our hearts.
