Barbara (Mahan) Harris, 62
UXBRIDGE - Barbara Marie (Mahan) Harris, 62, of Pulaski St. died Thurs., April 25, 2013 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert Harris; a son, Robert Harris and his wife Cynthia of Uxbridge; 2 grandsons, Nathan and Jack; a brother, William Mahan and his wife Paula of Venice Beach, CA; a sister, Linda Kitchen and her husband Robert of West Orange, NJ; 10 nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Mahan in 2012.
Born in Boston on August 9, 1950, she was the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Sharp) Mahan and grew up in Boston before moving to Uxbridge 35 years ago. Barbara graduated high school in Brooklyn, NY. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Assessors Office for the Town of Uxbridge for the past 28 years. She was also the Union Steward.
Barbara had a very strong connection to her town and to the military. She was a Cub Scout leader and Boy Scouts Treasurer for many years. Barbara was Treasurer of the Uxbridge Support the Troops for 10 years as well as volunteering on the Uxbridge Civil Emergency Response Team. She was an avid walker and a member of St. Mary's church. Barbara loved spending time with her family and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Her funeral will be held from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge on Thurs., May 2 with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 71 Mendon St., Uxbridge. Burial will follow in St. Mary's cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wed., May 1 from 4-8 p.m. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Beth Israel Deaconess West hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to Uxbridge Support the Troops, 34 Capron St., Uxbridge, MA 01569. To leave a condolence message please visit:
