Barbara D. St. Cyr (Magnant)

WORCESTER - Barbara D. St. Cyr (Magnant) passed away on October 17, 2013 at 75 of medical complications. She was the beloved wife of Henry J. St. Cyr, mother of four beautiful daughters – Lori, Amy (Karl von Hone), Cindy (Mark O'Brien) and Sue (David Hughes), grandmother to Lydia and Jazel St. Cyr-Hughes and big sister to Bob Magnant (Judy).

Barbara was born on August 1, 1938 in Worcester, MA and attended schools in Webster and Oxford, MA. After graduating St. Ann's Academy in Marlboro, MA, she earned a Bachelor's Degree in History from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA and a Master's Degree from Worcester State College. She and Hank met as teachers in the Oxford School System, married in August 1962 and moved to live in West Yarmouth five years later to raise their family and be near her beloved Cape Cod beach.

Barbara taught in the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional and Barnstable School Systems in elementary education and English-as-a-second-language programs. With her warm,

encouraging and dedicated teaching and her special attention to underprivileged students,

she left her nurturing mark on many young minds.

Barbara was active in the St. Pius X Church of South Yarmouth for more than 45 years, their Women's Club, the RHCI, the Cursillo Community and an ECHO Team participant for many years. Her talents and leadership in the Prayer Shawl program also brought warmth and spiritual comfort to the many individuals and families that she touched. She was a dear friend to everyone and she will be missed.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday October 21 from 4 – 7 pm at the Morris, O'Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday Oct. 22 at 11 am at St. Pius X Church, South Yarmouth. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Yarmouth Port.
