Bernard Beaupre' Obituary

Bernard "Ben" R. Beaupré, 78, of Southbridge, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center in Charlton, with his family by his side, after a lengthy illness.

He leaves his loving wife of 54 years, Frances M. (DiPaola) Beaupré; two sons: Michael P Beaupré of Worcester, and John C Beaupré and his wife Beckie of Sutton; three grandchildren: Ryan Beaupré of Valrico, Fl, Maxwell and Jackson Beaupré of Sutton; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Armand and Rodolphe Beaupré.

He was born in Southbridge on August 2, 1931, the youngest of 3 sons of the late Rudolphe and Eva (Metras) Beaupré. He was a lifelong resident of Southbridge.

He was a 1950 graduate of Mary E Wells High. He then served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Worcester Junior College with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Ben was a 44 year employee of American Optical where he was Project Engineering Manager. His talents for Drafting/Architecture can be found all over the AO and the surrounding community. Ben co-founded and operated D&B Coal Co along with several other family members starting in the late 70's.

He was a member of the Gateway Players where he used his artistic talents to design the stages for many of its productions. In his younger years, he enjoyed golf, riding his motorcycle, and was an avid bowler. He was a devoted husband and father and his great sense of humor always brought a smile to everyone he met.

Above all, his greatest pride and joy was spending time with his family and sharing many of his famous jokes.

His funeral will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Thursday, July 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Waltham, MA 02451.
