Bruce Spinney Obituary

Bruce W. Spinney, 87, of Barre, died Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, after a short illness. Born in Petersham, he was the son of Chester and Laura (Larson) Spinney. He leaves his beloved wife of 62 years, Constance J. (Pratt); two sons, Bruce W. Spinney, Jr. of Sutton, and David L. Spinney of Milford, Ohio; two daughters, Lauren Cipolla of Barre and Eileen J. Spinney of Leominster; one brother, Chester L. Spinney of New Hampshire. He is predeceased by one brother, Glenn Spinney of Barre. Bruce leaves 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Bruce was a lifelong member of the Barre Congregational Church. He worked as a bridge superintendent for the former Bayer Mingolla Construction Co. of Auburn. He retired in 1988 after 30 years. He continued to work after retirement for the Town of Barre as "clerk of the works" for the Ruggles Lane Project and for the town of Princeton for the Thomas Prince Elementary School Project. He was a navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion Post #2 in Barre. Bruce was known as an avid outdoorsman and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Calling hours for Bruce will be on Monday, August 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 So. Barre Rd., Barre. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Barre Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Glen Valley Cemetery, Barre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce's memory to the Barre Congregational Church Steeple Fund, Barre, MA 01005.
