Bruce Vidito Obituary

Deacon Bruce R. Vidito, 73

LEICESTER - Deacon Bruce R. Vidito, 73, of Leicester, MA, a Catholic deacon with the Diocese of Worcester, most recently St. Stephen's Church in Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family and close friends. To his family he was lovingly known as Pop or Dad and to the parishioners and students of St. Stephen's he was known as Deacon Bruce.

Deacon Bruce was born in Concord, Mass, the son of Charles "Bud" and Elizabeth (Ferguson) Vidito. Bruce has two sisters, Betty (Vidito) Farfaras and her husband Billy; Bruce was predeceased by his sister Judith (Vidito-Mannion-Nordstrom). Raised in Concord he graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School as a football standout. Following graduation, Bruce attended North Texas State University until he was drafted and then served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam Era. In July of 1967, Deacon Bruce married his love, Pauline M. Mucciarone and they began their almost 52-year life together with Faith, Love and Devotion. Together they raised their 5 children: Felicia Vidito, Bruce R. Vidito, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Adam Vidito and his wife Eve, Vicki (Vidito) Lyons and her husband Chris, Amy (Vidito) McCubrey and her life partner Thomas Eldred; seven grandchildren with whom he found so much joy and pride: Brittney, Aaron, Dustin, Sophia, Jacqueline, Grady, and Maggie; Nieces, nephews, extended family and friends including Jim Ridick, Bob Chiarvalotti, and Reverend Ed Chalmers.

Deacon Bruce has worked in many capacities to provide for his family. For many years he worked as a carpenter and he also worked as an insulation installer. On April 22, 1995, Bruce was ordained a deacon in the Diocese of Worcester at St. Paul's Cathedral by then Bishop Daniel J. O'Reilly. Prior to his ordination he worked as an employee of the Worcester Diocese, providing caretaker and groundskeeping services to Barlin Acres in Boylston, MA for 14 years until the venue closed. After that he spent 26 years as the maintenance supervisor, custodian, and groundskeeper for St Stephen's Church and School. In addition, Deacon Bruce served the Diocese as a deacon at St. Margaret Mary's church from 1995 to 2008, St Joseph's Church in Auburn from 2008 to 2011 and St. Stephen's Church in Worcester from 2011 to 2018.

Over Bruce's entire life, his Catholic faith and belief in people were his driving forces. He cherished his time with his family, he was very devoted to the Church and he loved all the kids, faculty, and staff at St. Stephen's School. Bruce found great joy from the fishing trips with his sons to the lakes and rivers of upstate N.Y. Bruce loved gardening, skiing Okemo and Sugarloaf Mountains and he was an avid fan of the New England Patriots.

Deacon Bruce will lie in state and receive Clergy, friends and relatives from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 15, 2019 in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. A vigil service will follow at 7:00 pm in the church. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16th at 11:00 am in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Leicester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deacon Bruce's name to St. Stephen's Church Restoration Fund, 357 Grafton St., Worcester, MA. 01604 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105, or you can plant a tree, bush, or plants in Pop's honor. Dear Pauline, Felicia, Bruce Jr, Amy, Vicky and Adam. We were sooo devastated when we learned of Bruce's diagnosis last year. God was good when HE called Bruce home - although MUCH TOO SOON. We have so MANY GREAT memories of the fun times we shared together. The Halloween parties, making toilet seats ??? when they were supposed to be working on cars.... chopping down trees!!! working on the houses and those FANTASTIC fishing trips... Though we will all miss him, his stories and the jokes... Rest assured he is no longer suffering but resting in peace -- smoking a cigar and fishing with the best of them. Our prayers are with all of you....

Dear Pauline and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Bruce was one of the nicest guys I knew. He was always so kind and caring. I will always remember our days at Plumley Village and Barlin Acres with your family. You and Bruce were always so supported of me and my kids. We had many good times at your homes and taking some day trips. I know in my heart that Bruce is with Jesus now and what a way to spend Easter. I hope you and your family find peace in this. we have lost a great man and heaven has gained an angel. RIP my friend and hug Tommy for me and keep an eye on him for me.
Love, Irene.

A great and a welcoming personality. When I was ordained and become a member of his Deanary, I experienced a very cordial relationship with Brother Bruce. He reached out to me several times to see how I was doing. As an immigrant joining the Diaconate program, I cherish this welcoming attitude and it meant a lot to me. I really missed a great colleague. May his soul rest in the perfect peace of the Lord. Amen.

Rest In Peace, Bruce. Such an energetic, entertaining, genuine, and knowledgeable person. Bruce was my boss over at St. Stephens where I was a janitor one summer and his storytelling was a main part of what excited me to come to work each day. Bruce was full of stories, laughs, and life. My prayers go out to all of his loved ones as well as the entire St. Stephens community. Bruce was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of character and his jokes and charismatic personality will be greatly missed.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Bruce was one of my favorite platelet donors. Everyone here at the Redcross loved him. We all called him Uncle Bruce. He will be sadly missed.
