Chris Fourkas Obituary

Chris C. Fourkas, 49
WORCESTER - Chris C. Fourkas, 49, of Worcester, died Thursday, August 16th in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, surrounded by his loving family. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Thekla (Dallas) Fourkas, and by his two sisters, Linda Poulias and her husband, John of Worcester, and Diane Vandal and her husband, David of Shrewsbury; his nephew Dean; and nieces, Mary, Ashley, Sarah and Nicole; and by his many friends and clients.
Chris was born in Worcester; his father was the late Charles Fourkas. He was a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School and Nichols College where he majored in accounting. Chris owned and operated the family accounting business, established by his father in 1946. He was an active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and volunteered countless hours, as its accountant, Building Committee Chair, and Grecian Festival Facilities Chair person and as auditor for the church. Chris was a member of the National Society of Accountants, the National Association of Tax Professionals, the Rhode Island Association of Public Accountants, a member of the IRS Liaison Committee. He was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Worcester County Sheriff's Department and a member of AHEPA, and served as its treasurer.
His infectious smile and fun loving, playful manner, along with his helpful and kind spirit endeared him to all who met and knew him. He touched many lives with his compassion and willingness to be there for those in need. You were blessed to call him friend.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses, PCA's, physical therapists and staff at Brigham and Woman's Hospital, Dana-Farber, Spaulding Rehabilitation and Coolidge Rehabilitation and the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their dedication and compassionate care provided to Chris, and support to our family.
His funeral is Monday, August 20th, from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 10:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, August 19th from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P. O. Chris I think about you each day my good friend. I can remember the little root beer candies your dad would give me as a kid while you tagged along with him as his proud son and as he, your proud father. I hope you are both together now and may God bless you both. Thank you for everything Chris, I will always keep you in my memories my good friend. As days pass, I can't believe you are really gone. As I pass your office with my kids I am so sad to know that you are not there. You will always be remembered my good friend. God bless you.

To the Fourkas Family & friends, reading threw the comments here that people have expressed twards Chris... There is nothing that I can add that would say what you all have said about Chris... My only regret .. never taking the time to talk to Chris after I returned from the Navy, even seeing him at class reunions seemed he was always catching up with other people... I remember running track & field with Chris in High School, he was in a few of my class's. May you find Peace with our God Chris, Rest Eazy...

Mrs. Fourkas, Linda, Diane, and family members-

A quote from the Greek philosopher, Aristotle, actually two quotes, come to mind: "Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work" but, more importantly, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit".......With that said, Chris had a daily HABIT of being a great friend to many, an excellent accountant, an amazing volunteer, and, most of all, a loving son, brother, and uncle. He was an Angel on earth. I was so sad to read of his passing. Please accept our condolences from across the miles. May his memory be eternal.

The proper words to express ones feelings never come easily. It is with heartfelt sympathy that I express my condolences to the entire Fourkas family. It saddens me that Chris was called before he finished his mission, yet I am somehow finding myself smiling knowing that he always put his faith, family and friends before anything else. A smile, a phone call or an appearance in person always meant and said a great deal about the person he was.

As a friend you will be missed more than words can say.

God Bless.

Chris was a friend, compatriote, and Divine human being. I had the great pleasure to know him as a Greek Orthodox St. Spyridon church member and volunteer as well as in social circles...I am grateful for his guidance when I first moved back to Worcester at the church and for his infectious ability to always find the lighter side of life...I'll always remember fondly his texts in the endless meetings we would participate in...at times so funny I burst out laughing and everyone would wonder why, while he sat at the other end of the table acting like the cat who ate the mouse...Love and prayers for your wonderful mother, sisters and family and friends...Chris you lived in Divinity, and you left your legacy for all to enjoy at Saint Spyridon...Love and miss you

Life's Weaving

My life is but a weaving, between my God and me.
I may not choose the colors; he knows what they should be.
For he can view the pattern, upon the upper side,
While I can see it only, on this, the under side.

Sometimes he weaveth sorrow, which seemeth strange to me;
but I will trust his judgment and work on faithfully.
Tis he who fills the shuttle, he knows just what is best;
So I shall weave in earnest and leave with him the rest.

At last, when life is ended, with him I shall abide,
Then I may view the pattern upon the upper side;
Then I shall know the reason, why pain with joy entwined,
Was woven in the fabric of life that God designed.

Chris, God bless you. Rest in peace.
