Dear ,Lorraine , Patty , Mike & Donny
Dave did so much for Hockey & the kids from Northboro & Southboro . Starting Northboro youth hockey in the early 70 ‘s were there were hundreds of kids playing hockey . Then in 1975 he Coached the 1 st Algonquin Hockey team . If I remember correctly it was a 2-1 win over Burncoat ! He was also part of the group from Northboro Youth Hockey who helped purchase NorthStar back in 76 or77 . This gave Northboro their own home rink & a place to play their league games as well . Our Northboro teams did very well . Many league League & District Champions . In one year 1975 our Squirt A’s finished 2nd in the State ourB team came in 4th . Not bad for small town. Dave was the Coach of the A team & Jim Flanagan Coached the B Team.
Dave’s influence over Hockey was wide spread . He ran the NorthStar Youth Leagues that had teams from Central Mass & Metro West . He had a great effect on Central Mass HS Hockey from being the Commissioner of Central Mass &
starting the NorthStar Prep League & the North Star JV League . The JV league helped save many HS programs including the Worcester Voke & Public School teams I Coached.
There were many times after games I would sit down in his office & talk about Hockey ,family & many shared stories . Those memories brought us many laughs .
Let the great memories that you all had with him help you thru this difficult time . RIP Coach .

In loving memory of a wonderful person. David, without question, was the most influential individual during the rise of hockey in central Massachusetts during the Boston Bruins Bobby Orr years and beyond! Thankfully, his influence continues today. Parents who played hockey and their kids who play hockey today owe a tip of the hat to Dave. It is because of Dave that hockey lived and continues its strong growth. Unfortunately, many hockey legends like Dave have passed. Few remember the Worcester Ice Arena at Webster Square, the Worcester Youth Hockey Ice Arena on Shore Drive, and the opening of Lake Ave Ice Arena. Few remember the rink collapse at The Northstar Youth Forum during the blizzard of 1978. I do! I was there with two great friends. You may have heard of the greatest generation. Well, Dave was a part of that. He served both the country and the hockey world. Dave was an exceptional husband, father, role model, and mentor. He did so many things for me and so many others. His passing deeply saddens me. I will be forever thankful to David. Thank you, Lorraine Roy. Thank you on behalf of all the past and present members of the hockey family in Northboro and beyond. What fun Dave and I had working together as Board of Directors, coaches, umpires, and hockey referees!

To the Roy family, Dave was a great guy that helped so many kids throughout his life, to many to count. He will always be remembered for his contributions to hockey at all levels. The hockey world lost a great man. RIP
