Deborah Cherry Obituary

Deborah Cherry

North Myrtle Beach, SC - Deborah Cherry died Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at her home in North Myrtle Beach. She was the daughter of the late Wallace Cherry and Gertrude (Brown) Wells, a graduate of Campbell University, U.S. Army Retired Major, Signal Corps Officer and retired IT infrastructure Branch Chief for DHS FLETC, and dynamic and supportive partner, family member, and friend to everyone in her circle.

Deb was an adventurous and wise presence in her career and community. She was an ambitious and successful leader in her field with a measured moral compass, but also a playful, warm, and very funny person who brought joy (and partook in it) in all environments. Those closest to her knew her to be a dependable shoulder to lean on, a hardworking supporter of many people and causes, an ace poker player, and a true wit with a talent for finding a punchline in any situation.

Among those grieving are her beloved partner, Denise LaCourse; sisters Judy (Cherry) Lewis (Bob Gorgan) and Lisa Goodhile; brothers Brad Cherry (Heather) and Nathan Goodhile (Tanya); sister-in-law Lois (Underwood) Cherry; Denise's mother, Barbara LaCourse, brother, Matthew LaCourse, and sister and brother-in-law, Wendy (LaCourse) Mathieu and Theodore Mathieu; and an abundance of admiring nieces, nephews, and cousins of multiple generations. She was also close to her brother, Dennis Cherry; stepmother, Mary Cherry; and Denise's father, Roger LaCourse, all of whom predeceased her. Deb and Denise's love brought their families together, and they could not have adored each other more fully, cared for each other more tenderly, or been more grateful to have met and shared their circle of loved ones.

Deb's family takes comfort in the knowledge that she spent her life deliberately enjoying the things she truly loved: Denise, family, friends, the ocean and beach, lighthouses, motorcycles, and her dear pets, Chaos and Cocoa. She regularly traveled, alone and with companions, by plane, car, bike, boat, and especially motorcycle, often taking multi-state trips through the country. It is difficult to imagine a life long enough to contain her passion and vigor, but the 66 years she spent with us were far too short. Her life blessed many, and so will her memory.

Judy & family,
I´m sorry for your loss. I will miss our online fun as miles separated us. Childhood was friendly cousin time. Although a decade separated Deb & me, we had fun together at family gatherings, along with when our mothers were with the other sisters and many cousins ran around everywhere. Thanks for the memories Deb.

I cannot believe she is gone. We had so many plans of things to do together still. Debbie was my sister. She was at my wedding, my baby showers, all of life's important events. I could always count on her. I will miss her so much! Brokenhearted in North Carolina!
