Dolores R. Simulevich

Shrewsbury - Dolores R. (Scola) Simulevich died with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. She would have celebrated her 82nd birthday on Wednesday. She was 81.

She was born June 8, 1934 in Worcester the youngest of eight children to the late Italian immigrants Michele Nunziato Scola and Angelina (Morello) Scola. Raised in the Grafton Hill neighborhood Dolores treasured the years spent together with numerous family members in their three decker on Branch Street in Worcester. She also spent time helping and working at the family market, Scola's on Suffolk Street. A graduate of St. Stephen's High School she began a career at Norton Company, where she met her great love, Alphonse F. (Simo) Simulevich and they later married on June 6, 1959. They were proud to be the first couple married in Our Lady of Loreto Church. They moved to Shrewsbury in 1971 and raised three daughters. They were married for 39 years until Al's death on April 27, 1998.

True to her Italian heritage Dolores was a fantastic cook and well known and sought after for her eggplant parmigiana and sausage and peppers dish. Self-taught, she had a beautiful gift for the piano and entertained many a Christmas for family and friends. She and Al were familiar faces on most dance floors in Worcester and it provided them venue to showcase their natural talent for swing dance.

In addition to her husband, Al, she joins in heaven her siblings, Ralph Scola, Rose Pezzella, Mary Conti and Anna Ozioli.

Celebrating her life are her daughters, Deborah M. Simulevich of Worcester, Patricia A. Tocman and her husband, Leonard of Shrewsbury and Tina M. Ladrie and her husband, Michael of Worcester; she was the much loved Nana to Allison and Lauren Tocman and Alanna and Maria Ladrie; her siblings, Albert Scola and his wife, Jane of Worcester, Daniel Scola and his wife, Teresa of Glastonbury, CT, Virginia 'Ginny' Palazzi of Stratford CT; and her much adored and longtime companion Richard Kiersted of Westerly, Rhode Island. She was the beloved aunt to 32 nieces & nephews, having a unique and special love for each one of them.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dolores's life by gathering for calling hours at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center on Sunday, June 12th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 13th in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the "Angels on the Hill", the staff of St. Mary Healthcare. Their compassion and care for Dolores will be forever be remembered. And to the sweet and caring staff of Notre Dame Hospice, the family extends their deepest thank you. Especially Liza, Nancy and Grace. Memorials in her name may be made to St. Mary Healthcare Center, Patient Activity Fund, 39 Queen Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
