Elizabeth Metcalf Obituary

Elizabeth R. Metcalf, 68

WORCESTER - Elizabeth R. (Lamson) Metcalf, 68, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 with her family gathered around her, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born and raised in Worcester, Elizabeth was a graduate of Ascension High School where she was valedictorian of her senior class. She received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and did graduate work at Indiana University and the University of Chicago. She performed in the Worcester Orchestra, the Syracuse (NY) Symphony, and played principal flute in the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra for nearly 40 years. She also worked as a library assistant at WPI and later at Anna Maria College.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth A. Lamson and Elizabeth T. (Ward) Lamson, her sister, Jane M. Lamson, and her brother, John Lamson.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph A. Metcalf of Worcester and her twin daughters, Rosemary A. Metcalf of Astoria, N.Y. and Julie C. Metcalf of Brighton.

Calling hours are Friday, January 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Saturday, January 27, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.
