Evelyn Colarusso Obituary

Evelyn Colarusso succumbed to a lengthy bout with cancer on May 7th, 2011 and passed quietly in her sleep at the home of her stepdaughter in Holderness, New Hampshire. Evelyn was born in Bennington, Vermont on the 13 of August 1925, the second daughter of Evelyn Rivers Lauzon and Joseph Lauzon. She attended public schools in Bennington, graduating from Bennington High School in 1934. In 1954, she married James C. Colarusso of Millbury, Massachusetts, and settled in the Worcester area, where Jim was a terminal manager and Evelyn an office clerk for Capital Trucking. Following the closure of Capital, Evelyn and Jim, in partnership with Evelyn's sister and brother-in-law, owned and operated Kelly's Rainbow Garden Bar and Grill and then Standard Auto Wrecking Salvage Yard, both in Worcester. In retirement, Evelyn and Jim moved to Florida, eventually settling at Tree Lakes in Palmetto where they both held seasonal jobs with Pacific Tomato Growers in Bradenton. Evelyn continued living and working in the Palmetto area until illness prompted her final retirement in 2008. In April of 2010, Evie came north to live with her stepdaughter's family. She thoroughly enjoyed the company of the family dogs, the opportunity to enjoy the out-of-doors, and watching her beloved Red Sox. During the illness she received wonderful care from the staff at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center followed by equally superb care from Community Health and Hospice.

Evelyn was pre-deceased by her husband James and her sister, May (Lauzon) O'Day. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Judith (Colarusso) Gooch, husband Larry Gooch, their children, James, Jennifer, and Erin and a great granddaughter named Evalyn Grace. Also left is her brother-in-law Robert O'Day, a niece, Trudy O'Day, and a nephew, James O'Day.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church on Main Street in Millbury Massachusetts on Saturday, May 21st at 11am. A private burial for the family will follow. Please, in lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, Office of Development, Hinman 7070, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001 or Community Health and Hospice, 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
