Florence Berube Obituary

Florence M. Berube, 94

Worcester - Florence M. (Lettic) Berube, 94, passed peacefully on June 5th at Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Worcester with her sons by her side. She leaves two sons, Paul J. Berube, Jr., and his wife Kathy of Millbury and Mark R. Berube and his wife Linda of Paxton; three grandsons, Paul Berube III, Michael Berube, and Eric Berube; and three granddaughters, Dana Berube, Kayla Berube, and Lauren Berube. She was predeceased in 1999 by her husband, and love of her life, Paul J. Berube Sr., after 51 years of marriage, and also by two brothers, Edward and Daniel Lettic, and a sister Sally (Lettic) Silva. She was also predeceased by a son and daughter who died at birth.

Florence was born March 28, 1924 in Worcester, and lived there all her life. She was the daughter of Mary and Frank Lettic. She graduated from David Hale Fanning High School and went on to become a supervisor at David Clark Company, where she was involved in making parachutes during WW2. She volunteered as a school cafeteria worker at Rice Square School while her sons were young and later worked at Caldor in Worcester and Auburn. An avid seamstress, she made beautiful clothing for herself as a young woman and was always skilled at repairs and alterations. Florence also loved dancing, from her single years, when she frequented Johnny Hines Dance Hall, to well into her eighties. She was a member of the Lithuanian War Veteran's Club for many years and later enjoyed socializing at the Auburn Elks Lodge where she and Paul made many friends. Among them were John and Phyllis Benoit of Leicester who remained wonderful friends during her widowed years.

Paul and Mark would like to express their gratitude to the professional, loving and caring staffs of both Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Notre Dame Hospice in Worcester.

Florence was very proud of her sons and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She was a vivacious woman with beautiful blue eyes who loved a good laugh. Always well-dressed, coiffed, and sporting her favorite jewelry, she was ready for anything. She will always be in our hearts.

Calling hours are Monday June 11th from 10am-11am at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536 followed by the celebration of her Funeral Mass at 12pm at St. Columba Parish 10 Richards Ave. Paxton, MA 01612. She will then be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 101 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01604 c/o Activity Department or Notre Dame Hospice, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605. Thoughts and prayers to you all with the passing of Flo. I worked many years with Flo at Caldor in Auburn. She was a wonderful lady and I enjoyed working with her very much. She always had a beautiful smile and a kind word. She did have beautiful eyes. She will be missed by many. May all the wonderful memories you made together carry you through the toughest times.

My condolences at the loss of your lovely mother and grandmother. It was easy to tell she loved music. With all the might she could muster, Flo helped me sing to my own dying mom 2 months ago at St Francis; the two were roommates. I spent some time with Flo last week, singing some of those same hymns we sang together in April. She always had a smile for me when I'd go to visit. I'm glad we had a chance to meet in her later life; it sounds like she was quite a lady and she was certainly sweet at St. Fran. May you find comfort as you mourn her passing. Blessings.

Flo and I were co-workers at Caldor and spent many hours together. She always had a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes and a giggle to go along with it. Thoughts and prayers for your family, she was a beautiful lady. Karen Bjorkman Wambach
