Just found out today he passed. He was my English teacher when I was a Junior in 1998 at Monty Tech. May God Bless him and grant him abundant reward and a place in paradise. Amen

Gary and I were classmates and Rooks in F Company at Norwich. He was one of three classmates from Glenridge, New Jersey. He was a great guy and classmate. I lost track of him after graduation but did hear he had entered the field of education as did I. Judging from all the previous comments, it is very obvious, he had a profound impact on his students and colleagues. This is the reason those of us who choose to spend our careers in educating the future generations do so in hopes we can have a positive impact on their lives. My sincere condolences to all his family. Rest in peace, Gary.

Dear Mr. Carroll,
Odd as it may seem, over the many years that have passed since junior high English grammar class, you have come to mind often. I read emails from coworkers each day, shake my head and think, Tsk, tsk, they obviously never had a Mr. Carroll. You were always patient and kind while demanding our best efforts. That year spent with you, Bob Bellefeuille and Paula Albrecht was something special, and is something for which I am ever thankful. All the memories posted on this page prove you went on to make lasting impressions on many, many young lives long after you did the same for us. I offer my sincere condolences to your devoted family and dear friends.

Marilyn,
It is with deep sadness that Steve & I send our heartfelt condolences for your loss. I pray that the hole in your heart that you feel at the moment will soon be filled with loving & happy memories of the love of your life. Gary was a beloved colleague, teacher, coach & friend to the Monty Tech community. He was always there to lend others a helping hand in time of need and to lighten a tense situation wth a humorous comment. During snowstorms he was always there helping us clean off our cars! RIP, Gary. May you find comfort through friends, family & happy memories, Marilyn.

Mr. Carroll, Gary, what can I say he towered over me as a Freshman he towers over me as I stand today. But he was as the term goes a GENTLE GIANT often times he did not even have to speak, he said more with just a look an even keeled guy, a very fair guy, would let you do the talking, he would take it all in, just enough to hang yourself he knew you knew the answer and would do the right thing then he would lower the boom, no, no just kidding He had a presence

Marilyn and family, our deepest sadness over the loss Gary. He was one in a million. His kindness, caring, and humorous banter was showered freely on all who called him a friend. Gary touched so many lives for the better. As an educator and coach his legacy has left a mark on students and colleagues alike. Dear Marilyn,
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your husband Gary. I only met him a few times and found him to be a down-to-earth, give-the-shirt-off-your-back kind of guy. Every time you spoke about him your face would light up and your eyes sparkled! I know he was the love of your life, your soulmate. This kind of loss is absolutely heartbreaking, and I know that words won't take away the pain, but please know that you and your entire family are in my prayers!
Love always,

Goodbye, my friend.
It isn't easy to teach academics at a vocational school, but your support of teachers and understanding of teenage behavior (and misbehavior) enabled all of us to interact, progress in a positive way, and ultimately do our jobs. You also improved morale using you tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, participating in coaching ad treating all in a fair and respectful manner. I have great memories: New teachers' parties, end of the year parties and coffee at the Red Checker, golf scrambles (complete with exploding golf balls), and Marilyn and me beating you and Dave in the battle of the sexes bowling match.
Rest in peace, I will miss you.

Dear Gary... you were a wonderful friend. You made me laugh every time I saw you and always welcomed me into your home. You came to my rescue more than once; bringing gas when I ran out on the way home from school, lending me your tools to do college projects, helping Marilyn post my wedding signs...I have so many good memories. The love you had for Marilyn was so special. I could see it every time I was with you two. Words can't express my sorrow.

Marilyn and family,
We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Gary. He was a dedicated professional and a trusted and loyal friend. He was always willing to help out and he made himself available. (i.e. Honor's Banquet). I'll always remember the day when the school had an early dismissal due to a snowstorm, and Gary was out there cleaning off all the cars in the parking lot. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him. God's Blessings to you all for peace and comfort during this time.

Marilyn, I am soo sorry for your loss.
Gary was many things to many different people. Always the first to offer his support and assistance to anyone in need. I'll remember him for trying to portray that Jersey "tough guy", who had a heart of gold, and a spirit for life that was second to none. Honored to have called him my friend.

Working with Gary at Monty Tech was such a wonderful experience and lots of fun. First and foremost, he was a fantastic Dean of Students - tough but fair. This earned him the admiration of both staff and students. Second, he had the greatest sense of humor, dry, but his timing was perfect. Our running comedy act was his "chauvinistic" qualities. (I still have the tee shirt "Carroll Trained" and hmmm I think you had something to do with that Marilyn)! My heart goes out to you for your tremendous loss.

Gary,
My heart sank when my parents told me of your passing. You are a man amongst men, a gentle giant and I am honoured to have known you. Heres something do you to chuckle at - years ago you were helping my dad and I put together an outdoor shed. At one point, I think it was for the roof, we couldnt figure something out. I picked up the instructions and you looked at me and said instructions? I havent looked at those since we started. Needless to say, we figured it out... rather, you did without the instructions. The world is a greater place because of you Gary. You will be missed by all and the memories we have of you will be forever cherished.
Till we meet again,

Starting High School was a very scary event and as I entered those doors for the first time I remember feeling as if I was going too pass out, then a voice quickly set my mind at ease. We were being greeted by this tall men with a smile from ear-to-ear and a calm comforting voice welcoming everybody and through my four years at Monty Tech, Mr Carroll continued to make his presence well-known on a daily basis greeting everybody. Always encouraging everybody set your goals and reach for them and as long as you put your mind to it there's no obstacle that you cannot overcome. This is what he did for me and I shall forever be grateful. My condolences go out to your entire family and friends, now you're being embraced in God's hands may you rest in peace.

Joan and I are so saddened by the news of Gary's passing. He was such a close friend to not only me, but my entire family. God will give you and your family strength during this difficult time.

Gary was a caring and remarkable teacher. He encouraged a love for reading. I am an avid reader today because of him. He always challenged us to be our best self. He was also an incredible colleague and brought fun to any gathering. It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to be inspired by him both as his student and colleague. My thoughts, love and prayers are with you Marilyn. He touched so many lives and will be missed.

I'll never forget Mr. Carroll welcoming me to Monty Tech in 10th grade when I had to leave the school I was attending because I was being bullied too severely to stay there. He told me if anyone started bullying me at Monty Tech to come to him and he would handle it, and he did. It was an entirely new experience for me, to feel like someone had my back. God bless Mr. Carroll.
