George Buffone Obituary
George was born June 6, 1926, one of 13 children born to Vincenzo "James" and Scavonia "Maria" (Coshignano) Buffone. He joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War. He returned home to marry his wife of 51 years Elizabeth J. (Kawcab) Buffone and together they raised their three children. He has lived in Worcester all his life.
George's wife Elizabeth passed away in 2005. He is survived by his cherished family. His son, George M. Buffone, his wife Laura and their children, Daniel, Brian, and Jillian; his daughter, Diane M. Lizewski, her husband Thomas and their children, Andrea, Amy and Kristin; his daughter, Carolyn E. Moore and her children, Jessica, Melissa and Thomas Moore, Jr.; two beloved sisters, Sophie Corron and Rita Czechowski all of Worcester; three adored great-grandchildren, Brennen, Brandon and Angelise; many nieces, nephews and extended family. George was preceded in death by his seven brothers, Dominic who passed in July, Robert who passed in August, Angelo, Frank, Louis, Joseph and Henry Buffone, and three sisters, Christine Swenson, Louise Bellizzi and Irene Borowy. George was happiest with the entire Buffone family around him. His family, including his nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters, looked to him for guidance, counsel and opinion. His family was his life's inspiration and devotion.
George worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Local 4, International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers working for many contracting companies in Massachusetts for over 50 years before retiring in 1988.
George was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, the Local 4, Operators Union. His interests included his garden, his yard and spending time in his cellar fixing just about anything.
George's funeral will be held Friday, October 16th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Peter Levine Cancer Center, care of the UMass-Memorial Healthcare foundation, 365 Plantation St Worcester. Ma.

Words cannot express the loss of a great man! We will miss him visiting us at Direnzo Towing and the trips to our home with his wonderful stories. That we will treasure forever. He was the best Godfather anyone could have had and will be missed more than anyone knows.
