George DeTellis Obituary

Rev. George John DeTellis, loving husband of 48 years to Jeanne DiPietro, passed away at his home in Orlando, Florida, on June 26, 2008, after a 9-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 73 years old. In 1957, he graduated from New England Bible Institute in Framingham, Massachusetts. In 1958, he graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. In 1973, he graduated with a Master's Degree in Theology from Assumption Ecumenical Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1959, Pastor George founded and pastored Hillside Evangelical Church in Medford, Massachusetts, and he pastored Calvary Center in Worcester, Massachusetts until 1983. Rev. DeTellis was the founder of New Missions. He was a missionary in Haiti for 18 years and in the Dominican Republic for 8 years.

Pastor George was born a twin to Mary Elizabeth Antonino of Duxbury, Massachusetts, on April 25, 1935, in South Boston, to the parents of Michael and Mary DeTellis of Bari, Italy. Pastor George is father to four children: George, Jr. (1961), Charles (1963), Mary Ann (1965), and Timothy (1972). He is grandfather to 5 grandsons and 5 granddaughters: Michael (1991), Nathan (1992), Jeremie (1994), Julianne (1995), Angelina (1996), Luc (1998), Jacob (1999), Kate (2000), and Elissa (2002).

We welcome you to celebrate with us the life of George John DeTellis. Calling hours are Tuesday, July 8, from 2pm-8pm. The funeral service is Wednesday, July 9, 11am at St. Paul Evangelical Church, 451 Lowell Street, Lexington, Massachusetts, 02420, 781-863-0500.

Pastor George John DeTellis will be laid to rest at the Mount Vernon Cemetery in the town of West Boylston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, July 9, at 5pm. The DeVito Funeral Home in Arlington, Massachusetts, will be handling the funeral arrangements.
