George Query Obituary

George A. Query, 57
Worcester - George A. Query, 57, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
He leaves his wife, Rosann (D'Allessandro) Query; two sons, Christopher and Thomas, both of Worcester; his father, Arthur G. Query of Worcester; and three grandsons, Tyler, Dominic and Tyler. He also leaves his sister, Andrea Caplan (wife of Ira) of Worcester; two brothers, Joseph Query of Danbury, CT and Thomas Query of Worcester; and many "favorite" nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary (Hannan) Query in 2007.
He was born in Worcester and graduated from Burncoat High School, where he was very active in the horticultural program. George worked at Holy Cross College for 37 years and was foreperson of the grounds overseeing the greenhouse. Prior to that, he worked at the former Charlie's Surplus starting at the age of 12 and continuing until the store closed.
His love for horticulture was evident with his part, along with James Long and the rest of the grounds crew in the ten national awards received at the college, and also with his involvement in the development and caretaking of the grounds at Hope Lodge and the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
He was a member of the Professional Grounds Management Society and was the recipient of the President Award for the New England branch newsletter and photographs. George was also an agriculture educational advisor at Burncoat and Worcester Technical Schools, an avid photographer, and he was the videographer for 7 Hawks Media. George was a "friend of Bill" and he was a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank the cancer unit at Mass General Hospital on Yawkey Way, especially to Dr. Allen, his nurse practitioner, Emily and his nurse, John. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Holy Cross College for the generous love and support throughout George's illness.
A Celebration of George's Life will be held at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, March 14 at CALLAHAN FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street. Visiting hours will be from 4:00 pm until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602 or the TG Santa Fund, C/O Commerce Bank, P.O.Box 15204, Worcester, MA 01615-0204. To place an online condolence please visit

I am sorry to Georges family for their loss. I have known George since the late 70's working at Holy Cross, and also being neighbors on Caro St. I have seen the beautiful photos he has done. I would see him around at times, and we would pick up right where we left off, never making it seem like it was a long time since we saw each other. I just saw George at UMASS, where I work now, and was so nice to see and talk to him. He was always a nice polite and caring person. George, you will be missed. It was my pleasue to know you.
