George Watson Obituary

George A. Watson, Jr, 90, of Southbridge, died, Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton. He was the husband of the late Emeline R. (Brodeur) Watson who died in 2002.

He is survived by two sisters, Barbara Lacosse of Worcester, and Miriam Cozzens of Charlton; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was also the brother of the late Donald and Robert Watson.

He was born in Southbridge, and was the son of the late George and Genevieve (Riley) Watson.

George attended schools in Sturbridge and graduated from Southbridge High School in 1937. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific theater. He was a member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

George worked as a sales representative for the Narragansett Brewing Company in the Worcester Branch for many years. He also worked as a real estate broker for Realty World in Southbridge, and was a member of the Deputy Sheriff's Association. He was an accomplished musician and played the drums and organ, and was a member of the Hammond Organ Association. He was a member Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Southbridge, was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed golfing at Cohasse Brook Country Club.

He recently celebrated his 90th birthday with all of his family from all over the U.S.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 1:00PM at the Overlook Masonic Health Center Chapel, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton. Burial is in North Cemetery, Sturbridge. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, Southbridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tri-valley Elder Services, 10 Mill St., Dudley, MA 01571.

I will miss George very much. I had time with him while at the Masonic in Nov. and March, after knee replacement. I am grateful for this time we ate every meal together and got to be good friends. Then I did visit with him after. I am a Retired Police Officer from Southbridge, this is where I met George first.
