It has been over 50 years since Gil saved my students and me from what could have been a disastrous event by sending us on a trip to Europe that had been cancelled by a pair of charlatans. He and I met, became fast friends, and colleagues. He reinforced for me faith in and the value of a promise kept . May he rest in peaceful bliss.

I knew Gil first as his student and then as a staff member at ALSG. He was truly one of the smartest and most unique person I will ever have the honor to meet. I was thinking about old friends today so looked him up online. Its hard to imagine he isnt walking on the beach anymore.

Very sad to hear about the passing of Gil. I used to visit The Rex Turtle Beach Hotel for many years and had the pleasure of meeting Gil most visits, back in 2007 i visited with a friend who was looking to produce a song and Gil very kindly gave advice and invited us to his house for lunch at the end of the beach. It was a lovely day! I will always remember Gils daily ritual at around about 4 ish he would walk to the bar at Rex in his swimming trunks and sit and chat with locals! He was greatly respected and a gentleman. R.I.P with sympathy to his family.

I was just reading his Rolling Stones writings on the website, enjoying the immensely as a huge Stones fan. Wondered what had ever happened to Gil, and found the obituary. So sad. Never knew him but loved his writing. Thank you for hosting the Stones back in those crazy summer of '81 days.

Just learned of Gil's death on Facebook. So sorry to hear as I was in touch on Studio owner's site briefly with Gil as I used to go to Longview with the Chapin's band in the early 70's as my-ex Rich Look was in Mt Airy. Gil was as full of life as ever it seemed so I am shocked to hear this.a very special human being in the music business. My sincerest condolences.

Real sad to hear of Gil's passing. My dad, Charlie Epstein of Charlie's Surplus in Worcester loved Gil and his wife Kathy. They were close friends. Dad used to take me out to Long View and Gil and Kathy would like be bang on the drums on the same stage that their bands would play on, what memories! The story Gil and Kathy told me about the night dad was making one of his deliveries to the farm and Mick Jäger came out and tried to look into a box Charlie was holding is priceless. Charlie was calling all the Stones "cooks" until Gil came out and introduced dad to The Rolling Stones. Well, Charlie quickly changed modes to super Charlie, and tried selling The Stones everything in his van that night. Might be the best story I ever heard on my legendary dad. RIP GIL, and thank you to both Gil and his lovely wife Kathy.

Such an accomplished life that we only had a small glimpse of, growing up across the street in Tenafly. The Markle family had a truly unique spiritual fullness in their lives. His kind and generous spirit echoes that of his dear parents who we knew. Our heartfelt condolences to all of you.

Unbeknownst to me about any illness Gil suffered in the last months of his life, I wrote him a letter this past February and enclosed an antique (circa 1925) folding postcard of Provincetown. Thinking he would get a kick out of the old images, I used the opportunity to express how significant and memorable my 5 year relationship with him, ALSG and Longview was. His dynamic personality, infectious laugh and brilliance touched me deeply. 40 years later, I find myself profoundly saddened by his death. Now that's the mark of a man whose time on earth was well spent.

In the 50s and 60s, my parents ran a Rest Home in Worcester. Over a period of years, mum and dad scrupulously saved the Green Stamps which accumulated from the weekly grocery bill. The Green Stamps were used for a family trip to Europe in the summer of 1965.
The best part of the trip was having Gil Markle as our tour guide. A young man at the time, his skills and thoughtful treatment of a diverse group of travelers belied his age. By the end of the first day, everyone on the tour seemed connected to Gil, such was his professionalism and, frankly, his charisma I also recall Gil's reaction when he learned of my parent's mode of payment. From the heart, he expressed his admiration for their resolve.
The last time I saw Gil was several years later at my sister Jo's wedding. Since that time, I have followed his remarkable career with interest and utmost respect. The wonderful tributes on this website confirm what many of us learned back in 1965; Gil Markle was a special man.
My condolences to all members of Gil's family, and to the many others whose lives he touched in the most positive of ways.

I met Gil many years ago through a mutual friend. I never really got to know him but I remember attending a few parties held at Longview. Years later, I performed the lead in a musical in North Brookfield and Gil's daughter was also a member of the cast. After the first performance, Gil sought me out, complimented me on my voice and told me that if he'd known I could sing like that he would have invited me to do some back up work in the studio. I was surprised that he remembered me and have never forgotten those kind words.

To the Markle family. I am so sorry for the loss of a wonderful person who I had the pleasure of living next door to when I was a young girl. I never thought I could love a place so much as I did spending my afternoon & weekends at Long View Farm. To Kathy, Nancy, Bill, Janny, Abby, David and Gil's larger family (i.e., anyone who ever met him): I'm unable to grasp the notion that this universal, inspirational genius is no longer striding the earth with us, leading, laughing, always reflecting on the meaning of it all. He encouraged so many people in various walks of life. The day each of us met him was a lucky day that altered our lives for the better. We thank you for the gift of sharing Gil Markle with us.

Gil Markle was an exceptional person to work for...I was a high school student when all the big bands of the 70's started arriving. My older brother had a lot of issues with high functioning autism and Dr. Markle ALWAYS took a minute to express how much he liked the work we did at Long View.I pass that social justice agenda on with my students on the Navajo reservation today...Dr. Jerry Cronin, Ph.D.

Gil, thanks to you, I met my husband of 31 years, so indirectly we have you to thank for.Madison. She only cost us $100 to bring home, thanks to ALSG's benefits! Thanks to you, Kerry worked with Arlo and everybody else and even got a c-note tip from Davy Jones. Thanks to you, I had an award-winning PhD thesis that catapulted me into a beloved (and lucrative) career as a business school prof -- who now teaches in the nation's top-rated MBA program for physicians. Thanks to you, I went to Europe 15 times by age 30. Thanks to you ... you get the drift. You were the butterfly to my life's hurricane of miracles, and you didn't even know it. I can't imagine you resting, but wherever you land in this virtual reality we call the universe, I wish you peace, happiness, and love. Thank you, Gil. linda3 & family

To David, Kathy, and Gil's entire blood family and his Passports family: My deepest condolences. You are all in my prayers.
I loved Gil, he believed in me and extended a helping hand when others were turning their backs on me.
Gil was greatly instrumental in my producing television and radio shows in the New England market. I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing.
Dr. Gilbert Markle did not fear my controversial reporting and he always treated me with respect.
Very few people have earned my unshakable trust and respect. Gil did so in spades!
It is with a heavy and sorrow filled heart that I say to Gil's family: May God give you all the strength and courage to get through this painful time.
We have lost a true treasure of a man who not only believed in humanity, he worked his magic for humanity. I am so fortunate to have met, worked with, and conversed with Dr. Gilbert Markle.
