Henry Baker Obituary

Henry A. Baker, Sr.

Whitinsville - Henry A. Baker, Sr., age 66, lifelong resident of Whitinsville, died at home on Sunday, February 7th surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

He was the devoted and loving husband of Gaytha (Richardson) Baker for forty-six years.

Henry was born on March 3, 1954 to the late Henry and Doris (Philbrook) Baker in Whitinsville.

In addition to his wife, Henry is survived by his loving children: Henry Baker, Jr. and his wife Kristen of Ashland, Christopher Baker and his wife Elizabeth of Huddleston, VA, Gregory Baker of Whitinsville, and Melissa Morin and her husband Matthew of Whitinsville; his grandchildren: Hannah, Jacob, Samuel, Tyler, Logan, Katie, Arianna, Micah, Dylan, Nolan, Caleb, and Austin; and his sisters: Donna Anderson of Uxbridge and Alice Litman of Auburn. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan M. Baker.

He graduated from Northbridge High School and Burdett College. He worked for the Northbridge Public School System in Accounts Payable. Prior to that, he was employed at GE, Telechron, KMPG, EMC, and the Douglas School System.

Henry was an incredible organist who spent his life playing beautiful music for God, blessing many local churches since the age of 12.

He was the ultimate family man, who devoted his life to being the best husband and father. His greatest passion, however, was spending time with his 12 grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as "Papa" and loved his big "Papa Bear" hugs and snuggles. One of his greatest memories was his trip to Hawaii with Gaytha, which in turn led to his fondness for palm trees. He was an amazing man with a huge heart whose smile and laugh left a lasting impression on so many people, and he will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 12th from 4-7 P.M. at Buma Funeral Home, 480 Church Street, Whitinsville.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 13th at 11:00 A.M. at Cornerstone Church (former North Uxbridge Baptist Church), 5 E. Hartford Street, Uxbridge. The service will be available live stream at the Cornerstone Church website: cornerstonebv.org.

Burial will follow at Riverdale Cemetery, Whitinsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Henry's name may be made to: Children's Haven, P.O. Box 152, Douglas, MA 01516 or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

So sorry, Gaytha and family. I remember Henry from school, even kindergarten. He was a kind person then and always. God bless you and your family.

My sincere sympathy to the Baker family on the passing of Henry. We worked together for the Douglas Public Schools and he was always so cheerful, a great man and loved his wife, kids and grandkids so much. Heaven has gained an angel. Thoughts and prayers for all of you during this time of grief.

"Hanky" was one of the neighborhood kids from Northbridge Center. We had a lot of fun as kids at the Playground, riding bikes, sliding, and doing things that kids did. I moved away in 1967 and I never saw him again. I thought I'd run into him as I don't live to far from where he did. I sure would have loved to talk over our youth with him. My condolences go out to his wife and family and to Donna and Alice. I hope your happy memories of him can push out the hurt from his passing soon.
