Irene Gleason Obituary

Irene Ann Gleason, 67

Worcester - Irene Ann (Jarmolowicz) Gleason, 67 of Worcester, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 5, 2021, after a period of declining health.

Irene was born in Worcester, one of six children of Henry and Antoinette (Padavano) Jarmolowicz. She graduated from North High School in 1971. Irene then enrolled in the nursing program at Worcester State College, but made the decision to leave the program and begin her family. She worked as a dietary aide for the Worcester City Hospital and then as a telemarketer for Greater Media before retiring. Irene was born in Grafton and moved to Worcester at young age.

Irene is survived by the "Love of her Life" and devoted husband of 42 years, Robert J. Gleason; her three children, Robert J. Gleason, Jr, Jessica Hawes, and Matthew A. Gleason, all of Worcester; her four grandchildren she cherished, Dylan, Bella, Grant, and Jonathan Blaze; her three sisters, Mary K. Quinn of Paxton, Deborah Ann Jarmolowicz of Worcester, and Loreen J. Brote of Sterling. Irene also leaves behind her cousin and close friend, Krystyna Moniak, along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents, her two brothers Anthony and Stephen Jarmolowicz predeceased her.

Irene was a member or Our Lady of Czestochowa church. She loved animals, crafts, baking, flea markets, and being with her grandchildren. As a devoted mother, nothing came before her family- her life's inspiration. Irene would also plan all year long for her favorite holidays- Halloween and Christmas. She especially loved everything about Halloween- notably because it was her birthday!

A period of calling hours will be held Sunday, September 12, 2021, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm followed by a prayer service at 5:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Joslin Diabetes Association, 1 Joslin Place, Boston.

My deepest sympathy to Irene’s family. In my first year of teaching I was assigned to North High School on Salisbury Street to teach Home Economics. Irene was one of my students who has long remained in my memory! She and I shared Halloween as birthdays. When I married she led a group of students who attended the ceremony. She held a special place in my heart over all my years of teaching. May she rest in God’s peace.
