Jacob Boudreau Obituary

Jacob Matthew Boudreau, 12, of Shrewsbury, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at home, surrounded by his beloved family.

He leaves his loving parents, James W. and Kristen N. (Lourie) Boudreau; his two siblings: Hannah E. and Michael S. Boudreau; his paternal grandfather, Lawrence V. Boudreau and his companion Lavaun Barry of Worcester; his maternal grandmother, Joan A. (Guerin) Lourie of Shrewsbury; his maternal great grandmother, Florence T. Guerin of Shrewsbury; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including a very special uncle and aunt, Jeffery and Carol Lourie of Auburn and their children Gabriella and Isabella. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Ruth J. (Bradshaw) Boudreau and by his maternal grandfather, Jason Lourie. Jacob was born in Worcester and has lived in Shrewsbury for most of his life. He was a 7th grade student at Oak Middle School, where he will be missed tremendously by his teachers and friends. He also attended Coolidge Elementary and Sherwood Middle Schools. Jacob loved the Red Sox, enjoyed spending time at the beach, camping, and being with his friends. He also loved his two faithful canine companions, Hallie and Lilly. Throughout his illness, Jacob was an inspiration for all who loved, cared and came to know him. Jacob's "journey" brought out the very best in everyone around him. Jacob faced many challenges with grace and acceptance and because of those challenges he became involved with multiple causes related to his battle, including participating in the Relay For Life celebrations both in Shrewsbury, and in Auburn where Jacob was not only the captain of the Auburn Police Department Relay Team, but the "Little Angel" cutting the ribbon which signified the start of the event. Jacob also participated in several Kids Pan Mass Challenge Rides across the Commonwealth and he not only rode, but helped organize the first Kids PMC in his town of Shrewsbury. Jacob also inspired many friends and family to ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge, where Jacob was a Pedal Partner for Team L.E.G.S. Jacob was a leader who motivated others through his enthusiasm and zest for life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all those who have helped Jacob during his illness, including the teachers and students of Shrewsbury, and the many Doctors and nurses for their ongoing care and dedication. A very special Thank You to Eileen L. at Dana Farber, for her never ending gift of hope.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours which will be held on SUNDAY, April 18th from 3-6 p.m at the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on April 19th, at 10 a.m in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. (Please go directly to the church.) Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. The family request, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, ATTN: Contribution services, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, or to the Hole In the Wall Gang Camp, 555 Long Wharf Drive, New Haven, CT 06511, or to Why, 1152 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA 01602. April 16, 2010

God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be.
He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’
He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend.
He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.
He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain,
God took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain.

Dear Jim, Kristen, Hannah and Michael,

Jacob was a handsome and courageous boy who remained strong and fun-loving through it all. He touched the lives of so many. He will live in everyone's heart and mind forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

To the boudreau family,
I met Jacob and your family during Jacob's clinic visits at U Mass. I will always remember Jacob's love of video games, especially the Lego ones. He always had a smile and loved picking out snacks. I'm glad he enjoyed my puppets and that they could bring a smile to his face. Kristin , I guess fate had it that we just happen to run into each other in Boston two weeks ago. I'm glad I was able to see you and Jacob.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Jake was a good friend, and a brave fighter, i never stayed over his house, or played sports with him, but he was my friend, and now i am in grief. i was in jake's 4th and 6th grade classes. Jake inspired me to participate in the relay for life. He always had a smile on his face. He did not deserve to pass at his young age, or at all even. Goodbye Jake

Dearest (((((Jim, Kristen and Hannah)))),
I am so very sorry to read of the death of your handsome, beloved and very brave young son, Jacob Matthew…please accept my deepest condolences.
There are no words that can help ease your pain related to this tragic event in your life, just know that as another bereaved parent I care and understand. I pray that you find the peace and comfort in the happy memories of your beloved son. It is so very hard to read about another parent(s) suffering the horrible and tragic death of a child.
For me to tell you that you will feel like you did before this tragedy would be a lie. Each of us handles our grief differently. The tragic death of your son will forever change your life. My only advice is to take one moment at a time, ride the waves of grief and devastation as they approach and don’t be afraid to express your feelings. No matter what they may be. Find comfort in the support of your family and friends and let them help you in any way they can.
I truly understand how having a child die can change your life. My 11 year old daughter, Danielle Marie was killed in a terrible auto accident in Massachusetts in February of 2006. She died of a massive head injury at the scene of the accident. My wife, son and I live in Southington, CT.
Jim, Kristen and Hanna, you, your beloved son, Jacob and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers for continuous strength and comfort each day.
With deepest sorrow,
John-Daddy of Angel

When You feel Lonely
When a person you love passes away
Look to the night sky on a clear day.
The star that to you, appears to be bright,
Will be your loved one,
Looking upon you during the night.
The lights of heaven are what shows through
As your loved one watches all that you do.
When you feel lonely for the one that you love,
Look to the Heavens in the night sky above.
