"Jimmy D."

Leicester - James Anthony "Jimmy D" D'Angelo, 65, of Leicester, a legendary Rock and Roll musician, passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, September 23, 2018.

Jimmy is survived by his biggest fans, his family, which includes two daughters, Melissa Sue D'Angelo and Hannah Lisa D'Angelo; two sons, Jesse James D'Angelo and Dylan Peter D'Angelo; two brothers, Joseph W. D'Angelo and Fred W. D'Angelo Jr. and his wife Jude; two sisters, Vera Jean Manzi and her husband Bill, and Mary Ann Ford and her husband David; three grandchildren, Ava Marie, Peyton James, and Lily Ana; his former wife and friend Pamela S. Boguzis; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and fans. Jimmy was born in Worcester, son of the late Fred W. Sr. and Jean (Ugone) D'Angelo. He graduated from Burncoat Senior High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College.

He worked hard his entire life, maintaining a long career in construction, the last 30 years of which were with D.F. Balcom and Son Contractors.

Jimmy followed his passion of music since he was a young boy and his talent was showcased in his many bands including "Mad Angel", "August", and his most recent band of three decades, "Deep 6" (formerly known as "Code Blue").

Jimmy was a devoted family man, and most cherished his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He touched so many lives not only with words and music, but with his kindness, humor, and selfless generosity.

Another wonderful human being gone from one of Worcester's finest families. You have seen too much loss. Jimmy was a kind, passionate man that we couldn't help but love. Just looking at his picture warms the heart. He found his musical passion early and never abandoned it for his whole life. Our whole town is the richer for it.

I am so sorry that I didn't see the notice for the calling hours. I will never forget when my wife, Valerie, died and Jimmy came out on crutches to pay his respects. In this very sad time, the D'Angelos have much to remember and be proud of.

I'll never forget the great times we had in high school when Billy Nosel and I were roadies for the Joneses with Ronnie Mancini. Hoping in the bus that Fred drove to all the shows, they'd play their hearts out and then back on the bus back home, where Mrs D'Angelo would have a buffet and we'd all sit and talk for hours. Truely one of the nicest families around. Billy Nosel died in L.A. where he was a music business attorney 2 years ago. I can guarantee that The Noz and Jimmy are jamming right now and they are smiling, for sure. My thoughts and prayers go out to all saddened by this loss.

Worcester will surely miss Jimmy. Irreplaceable. Greatest guitarist around and a super guy. I will always remember our days in Jr. high & high school at Burncoat, when Jimmy and The End/The Joneses emerged as the premier bands in the region. Had the pleasure of sharing the stage a few times, opening for Jimmy's band, including a fun gig at the old Comic Strip with Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs. Deepest condolences to Jimmy's family. Rock on.

joe and all family members - sorry to see james go so soon. i've known both of you since our days at burncoat - dad, too. lots of unforgettable events in lucy sullivan's french class with benny lanava and geoff king. i remember jim always saying he wanted to borrow my stratocaster so he could 'smash it' like pete townshead used to do. you guys were playing gretsches. way out out of my price range for sure. it would have been another great performance by jim, but unfortunately, i couldn't part with it - i would have to go back to using my father's L5 plugged into the old modified philco parlor radio. he wasn't too keen on that idea. i was only 16. anyway, i wish i could have had one last hand shake and a hug, as usual to send him off, but that will just have to wait at least another day for now. thanks for all the memories. R I P james - been a long time comin'...

Joey and Family

I just heard Sunday (09/30/18) that your brother Jimmy passed away. I am so sorry to hear this and of your loss.

I knew Jimmy only slightly and he was always a great guy. He remembered me from the "old days" and always greeted me warmly with a smile.

The Joneses were a big influence on me, you guys had; the look, the stage presence, the sound, and the songs. I would go to see you, listen closely to Rob, memorize his patterns, and then go home and practice. The band was absolute magic. You guys will always be much loved and the best band from Worcester County.

An anecdote of Jimmy:
One night in the mid 90's Rod (the guitar player from my current band) and I went to see "Code Blue" ("Deep 6"?) at Tammany Hall. Rod didn't grow up in Massachusetts and he didn't know our past local rock culture. (So we went to see Jimmy.) Before the band started I went over to say hi to Jimmy. Now at the time I my hair was 24" long, dark, and thick.
Jimmy looked at my hair and just said, "Freedom man, freedom".
. . . .
Later that evening Rod and I were standing right in front listening to the band. As the band was playing, Jimmy walked over to me and said something in my ear. Rod said, "Wow! That's cool. He came over and talked to you while the band was playing." I told him, "Yeah, he told me to tell you that your zipper was down".

Jimmy was the ultimate cool.
I will miss his spirit.

Joe and Jim were the reason I became a musician. We went to numerous shows to see with Joneses, DNZ, Mad Angel, Pretty Poison and August. The D'Angelo bands had a very strong following from Webster and Dudley. They wrote and performed so much excellent music! Life is short but love is infinite. RIP Jim, you ROCK! Our deepest sympathies to all of his family.

Dear Joey, so sorry you lost your brother Jimmy. Memories of watching you guys perform is the reason why I play the guitar. Our dads worked together, and were friends. Freddie would always let my dad know where you guys were playing. Even though we were to young to be there, my dad would take us . It was like seeing the Beatles , it was so special, and had such a big impact on me. Still does. Thank you

Billy Stooke

October 1, 2018

Jimmy may have been responsible for me hitting my first home run. Perhaps I only got to first base but it was after seeing the Jones's. To me they were Worcester Beatles. I still think the 45 called baby should have been a hit. I guess if the Beatles analogy fits Joe was the quiet one, Paul, and Jimmy, John. We lost John way to soon. I'm smiling when I think of the many times our paths crossed over the years. Jimmy always had that smile. A smile I know is missed by such a close knit family. What a pleasure to read everyone's memories of Jimmy and identify with them. And the band played on...

When I was in the eighth grade, my older neighbors raved about a band called The Joneses from Worcester who came to Gardner a few times a year. Finally when I began high school in the fall of 1969 and could go to the weekend concerts I understood what the deserved praise was all about. The Joneses were exponentially better and professional than any of the other bands who played. Then they morphed into Mad Angel. Jimmy was a charismatic musician who harmonized perfectly with brother Joe on guitar and vocals in both bands. The warmest memories of my high school years were attending their performances. My friends told me that Fred Sr. (I didn't know at the time that that was his name) was the crew-cut father who helped transport the band around in a modified yellow school bus. A big fan, I remember talking to brother Joe at D'Arby's when I was on a date in Worcester a few years later. The D'Angelos are obviously a talented and loving family and I am blessed to have been a beneficiary of their dedication to music and Worcester County. The D'Angelo family are all in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you Jimmy for the joy of the music you shared with us.

I can't think back to my youth without thinking about Jimmy, it's impossible. I was a true groupie as defined by most of my peers and family but didn't care because they were some of the best times of my life. I was fortunate as a groupie and avid follower of the JONESES to be welcomed into the family with many invites to the home of Jimmy and brother Joe. Those times I'll always remember the hospitality of their wonderful Mother Jean, RIP, and always comical father Fred, RIP. It was during these visits where I got to listen to some great music particularly NEW and not yet released Beatle songs. Amazing times and so many great memories. The friendships and bonds made during the nearly decade I was in Massachusetts can never be broken. Even when I went to visit from my home in Florida I always made a point of finding out where they played and tried to attend any outing they were at. This is not just a loss of a great musician but a great person who always showed those around him a kindness not always known with musicians. I know that he will be so missed by tens of thousands of fans, friends but mostly by his family. My thoughts, prayers go out to each of them at this time with hopes that they always remember we all lost a brother and to hold onto all of the GREAT memories of Jimmy and his legacy will always live on.
