Janice Guild Obituary

Janice L. Guild, 56

Medway/Berlin - Janice L. Guild, 56, died after a courageous battle with cancer. She was full of life and laughter with a unique sense of humor until her death.

Janice was born in Marlborough, daughter of the late Robert H. Guild Sr. and survived by her mother, Jean E. (Bradley) Guild of Berlin. She was raised in Berlin where she was a 1976 graduate of Tahanto Regional High School and a 1981 graduate of Framingham State College. She played softball throughout her high school and college years. Janice began her long and rewarding career in law enforcement in 1985 as a dispatcher with the Wellesley Police Dept. and in 1987 she became a full time police officer with the Wellesley Police Dept. She was proud to serve the police department as its D.A.R.E Officer and also served as its Safety Officer. She was an active Lifetime Member of the Girl Scouts; Past Worthy Advisor of the Clinton Rainbow Girls, #99 Assembly; Past President of the Massachusetts Safety Officer League; Past Secretary of the Massachusetts D.A.R.E Officers Association; Past President and member of the Medway Women's Bowling League and Board Member of the Medway Friends of Elders. She was also a member of the Berlin Women's Auxiliary; Berlin Women's Guild and former member of the Women's Evening Guild.

Janice loved sports, whether she was coaching, playing or as a fan. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking and making fleece blankets. She always looked forward to her many trips to Maine, visiting Nubble Light House, local beaches and would not head home without visiting one of the famous lobster shacks in Maine. Janice truly cherished the times she shared with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her sister, Joanne Guild of Amherst; her two brothers, Robert H. Guild Jr. of Berlin and Richard B. Guild and his girlfriend Denise Gardner of Holden. She also leaves her niece, Nicole Desabrais and her fiancée Tom Gordon of Marlboro, NH; her niece and Goddaughter, Michelle Desabrais of Amherst; her niece, Victoria Desabrais of Amherst; her Godson, Michael Seed of Clinton along with many other relatives and friends. Janice's family would like to thank the Visiting Angels & MetroWest Home Care & Hospice.

A funeral service and celebration of Janice's life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the First Parish Church of Berlin, 24 Central Street, Berlin. Burial will follow in North Cemetery, Berlin. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Friday, Jan. 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 (www.tighehamilton.com).

Rest In Peace Janice.

Janice was a natural when it came to working with children. She skillfully implemented the DARE program with my 5th graders and more often than not, when it came to our end of the year ceremony, she surfaced as one of their fondest memories of elementary school. Years later Janice installed a baby car seat when I was expecting my first child. She connected with everyone she met and was so highly respected. Am very saddened to hear of her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and all those close to her.

A wonderful, caring, warm person. Janice will always be remembered in our hearts as someone who loved children and was passionate about life. She gave our daughter one of her first books and personally signed it. She also set up Santa letters to be delivered every Christmas with special memories from the year's events included. She is loved and will be missed.
