I was saddened to hear of John's recent passing. I came to know him as one of his workers on the Worcester Country Club maintenance staff. He created a family atmosphere for all of us who worked there. He assembled an incredibly diverse group, some older retired people and some younger high school types like myself. I have always said it was the best job I ever had. Much of the credit for that characterization goes to John. Many people say I have one of the best lawns on Martha's Vineyard where I have lived for 45 years. I always give any credit back to John and Semi who taught me all I know. Turf is in my blood. I am grateful and feel blessed to have had John and Grace in my life, even if for only a brief time.

Reading John's obituary brought back memories from over 50 years ago when as a 17 year high schooler, John hired me for a summer job at Worcester CC, an employment that lasted for 4 more seasons as I finished high school and college. John and Semi took me under their wings and convinced me that engineering was not my future but instead a career as a golf course superintendent. That well taken advice has led me to my position as a golf course superintendent in New York, a position I have held since leaving Worcester CC almost 50 years ago!
Many fond memoires working side by side with John Jr., driving to the ice house with Semi, and visiting with Grace. John had a knack for building a team and earning respect from everyone on that team. My brother Ed was also very fortunate to have worked with John for a few years. My condolences to John Jr. and the entire Almonte family.

I would like to express my condolences to the Almonte family . As a young person who was a friend of his son , the Almonte’s welcomed me as a family member . John , senior , always greeted with a smile and treated all with respect . He expected respect for all in return .A wonderful person .

Reading John's obituary made me think back to the days when I caddied at Worcester Country Club. I was in school with Jr. and we had a good time talking about all the work his Dad did to make the golf course beautiful. He certainly had the gift of a green thumb.
Blessings to all.

John was one of the best neighbors any family could ask for. He & Grace became surrogate grandparents to our daughters, always welcoming us into their home. John set the bar for the best lawn in the neighborhood, one many of us aspired to, but seemed to always come up short. Despite our green thumb shortfalls, he was always ready to teach you the best ways to improve your lawn (add more water!!) We will miss him dearly, but he and Grace will always live in our very best memories. How could anyone ever forget the best Roni's and the greenest grass in town. The Pinkes Family

My heart is with all of you. Pop was one of my most favorite uncles. So many wonderful memories of Uncle John and Auntie Grace. The best times were when we all gathered at the houses on Rice Street, or West Boyleston, and in Holden, to have macaroni and meatballs, pastries, and of course, Coffee. Can’t forget the hot peppers too! All the weekends they came to spend with us in Chatham were very special. My boys always waited anxiously to see what they were bringing for dinner. Lots of great times! I hope you’re with Gracie, Pop. Hugs and much love to both of you, your “favorite niece from Cape Cod” XOXO ❤
