John Darling Obituary
UXBRIDGE - John L. Darling, Sr., 91, of Uxbridge passed away Sun. November 17, 2013 in the Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford. He was the husband of Esther A. (Morrison) Darling.
Mr. Darling was the owner and operator of JL Darling Sewerage Service in Uxbridge, which was taken over by his sons John and James after his retirement in 1987.
John was born June 22, 1922 in Uxbridge, the son of the late Lester W. and Sarah E. (Worrall) Darling. He was a lifelong resident of Uxbridge and a graduate of Uxbridge High School, class of 1940.
Mr. Darling served his country in the U.S. Army as Corporal during WWII. Before entering the Army, he married his wife and they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this past May.
John was a life member of the Uxbridge VFW Post #1385 and had a love for antique cars and tractors.
In addition to his wife, Esther, John is survived his five sons, John L. Darling, Jr. of North Attleboro, James L. Darling of Blackstone, Robert M. Darling, David A. Darling, and Francis X. Darling, all of Uxbridge; four daughters, Joan L. Stevens of Uxbridge, Susan E. White of N. Oxford, Cynthia A. Woods of Guilford, CT, and Mary A. Knapp of Uxbridge; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters; Edna Salmon and Althea Darling.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 4-7PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 N. Main St., Uxbridge.
Funeral Services with full military honors will be Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 10AM in the funeral home.
Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Uxbridge.
