John Johnson Obituary

John A. Johnson, 66, of Warren Road, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at his home after a long illness.

He leaves a wife, Mary R. (McDonald) Johnson; two sons, Robert Johnson and his wife Wendy of Paxton, and Timothy Johnson of Dudley; a sister, Hildred Grusczynski and her husband Joseph; of Queens, NY; 4 grandsons, Daniel, Michael, Steven & Zachary, 1 granddaughter Jillian, many nieces and nephews and in-laws. He is predeceased by his brother, William Douglas Johnson.

John was born on the island of Saba in the Netherland Antilles; he is the son of the late John William and Elfreda (Zagers) Johnson. He moved to Queens, New York at age 19. He graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic school in Curacao; he received a degree from the RCA institute in New York City. Earlier in his life he worked for Northern Insurance Company in New York City and then worked for Hanover Insurance Co. in various managerial roles for 33 years, retiring in 1999. John loved animals, gardening, woodworking, and nature. He was a handyman who could fix just about anything.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn. His funeral will be held Saturday, October 27, from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.
