John Pough Obituary

John T. "JT"
Pough, Sr., 84
UDORN THAILAND - John T. "JT" Pough of Udorn Thailand, formerly of Worcester, MA died unexpectedly in his home in Udorn Thailand on March 24th 2012.
John was born in Greensboro, NC on March 5th 1928, orphaned at age 5 and was raised along with his brother by his Uncle and Aunt, Albert and Carrie Pough in Worcester, both deceased. John was predeceased by his wife of 17 years, Pauline L (Davenport) Pough of Worcester, and his brother, Jerry Pough of Pittsfield, MA.
John was a Vietnam Veteran and served approximately 27 years in the US Air Force before retiring to Udorn Thailand in the early 70's. While living in Worcester and stationed at Hanscom Field Air Force Base Bedford, MA, he briefly worked part time for the Telegram and Gazette and was a member of Second Baptist Church. During the 1960's he operated a Teen Center on the weekends at 17 Bancroft St., where the neighborhood teens could to go to enjoy music, dance and socialize under supervision and "not out running the streets getting into trouble."
John was a Junior Vice-Commander of Post 10249 Udorn Thailand. In 1976 he was instrumental in helping to reactivate VFW Post 10249 Udorn Thailand after it had been officially closed when US Forces left Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base. "Almost immediately after its rebirth, the post members became active helping the local community. Over the past 30 years, Post 10249 has provided clothing, sports equipment and many other necessities to the Nong Khai Boys Home, the Udorn School for the handicapped. Countless other schools and orphanages in a 200 km radius were also supplied with fans, student desks, chairs, water coolers, typewriters, storage cabinets, and sports equipment. In 1979, the post started making a quarterly rice donation to the Udonthani Senior Citizens Home, a tradition that still continues today. John also helped to establish the AUA where he taught English. He also taught English at the Udorn Teachers College as well as in small local groups."
John is survived by his wife of 27 years Liam Nuan, of Udorn Thailand; 3 sons, Gary Pough of Los Angeles, CA, John Pough, Jr. and his wife Kelly Daniel Pough of Worcester, and Robert Pough of Bochum Germany; 6 daughters, Evelyn Johnson and her husband Gerald of Worcester, Victoria Camble and her husband Philip of Worcester, Valerie Adams and her husband Michael of Columbus, OH, Robin English and her husband Edward of Worcester, Siriporn Montgomery and her husband Dave of Maha Sarakham Thailand, and Jennifer Pough of Udorn Thailand. John is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandsons.
John was given a traditional funeral and burial according to the customs and traditions of his family in Thailand. The local VFW came to perform a US Veteran's ceremony and the Post Commander presented his widow with a freshly folded American Flag. His remains were cremated and his ashes scattered into the Mekong River.
"John was a real gentleman who always tried to do the best for everyone he came in contact with. He'll be missed by all who knew him."
