John E. Sundin, 93

Millbury - John E. Sundin, 93, died peacefully in his home in Millbury on Friday, February 5, 2016.

His wife of 53 years, Beatrice C. (Forget) Sundin, died in 2011. He leaves two sisters: Dorothy E. Lederer of Paxton and Florence E. Guertin of Worcester; his caregivers, Robert E. Wilcox, Sr. and his wife, Maria (Radziemska) Wilcox, of Millbury; and nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by his parents, Albert J. and Agnes B. (Morrissey) Sundin, and a sister, Rita M. Sundin, of Worcester.

Born in Worcester on April 24, 1922, he lived there before moving to Millbury in 1958. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Battery A, 635th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion, from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He participated in ground combat in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), and Central Europe, and earned the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Sundin worked as a shipping clerk for Thom McAn Shoes in Worcester and Auburn and retired in 1981 after 30 years with the company. Previously, he had worked as a stock clerk for the Whitin Machine Works, Whitinsville, for several years.

He was a member of Assumption Catholic Parish, Millbury, and a former member of Main South Post #341, American Legion, and Local #170, Teamsters and Warehousemens Union, both in Worcester. He was an avid sports fan and he loved animals.

Mr. Sundin's funeral will be Wednesday, February 10, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Millbury, with a Funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon in Assumption Church, 10 Waters St. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Millbury. There will be a visiting hour in the funeral home from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M., before the Mass.
