Kenneth R. Mateer, 78

South Kent, CT - Kenneth R. Mateer of South Kent, CT, died Saturday April 4, 2015 in New Milford Hospital at the age of 78.

He was born October 1, 1936 in Whitinsville, MA, son of the late Charles and Alice (Culley) Mateer. After graduating from Fairfield University with a Bachelor of Science Degree he married Meredith Barton on June 28, 1958 in Danbury, CT. They lived in New Milford before moving to South Kent twelve years ago. Mr. Mateer owned and operated M square Engineering in Newtown before retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Mateer was an avid gardener, loved camping and summer road trips and traveling to Maine and walking along the Marginal Way.

Besides his wife Meredith, Mr. Mateer is survived by his son, Korey Scott Mateer of South Kent, CT; his daughter, Tracey Lee Mateer of North Branford, CT; daughter in law, Roberta Mateer of New Milford, CT; a brother, Robert Mateer and his wife Gail of East Douglas, MA; his grandchildren, Duncan Charles and Sean Patrick Mateer; several nieces and nephews in MA; and his cat, Rascal. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Mateer on May 27, 2014.

Funeral services will take place at a later date. Arrangements were handled by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
