Linda Nelson Obituary

Linda I. Nelson, 67

SUTTON - Linda I. Nelson, age 67 of Sutton MA, died peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021 in UMASS Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer.

Linda completed her bachelor's degree in Art Education and Visual Design at Southeastern Massachusetts University. After college, she worked in Boston at Channel 7 WNAC TV and Continental Cablevision in Boston, for approximately 10 years. Once returning to central Mass, she spent the remainder of her life working in the family business. The YWCA was also home to Linda for many years as a swim teacher. She also did freelance design work for clients in and around New England.

An avid outdoorswoman, Linda loved swimming, sailing, kayaking, going to concerts and anything art related. She was a shy, gifted artist and photographer whose heart and soul shined through her work.

Using a camera to express herself, Linda found profound beauty, capturing a world of magnificence that others overlooked. What we dismissed, she embraced. What we paid little attention to, she embellished with the eye of a master craftsman. She was a true inspiration to artists. Linda won many awards for her photographs and was proud to be featured in the Blackstone Valley Corridor 2020 calendar. She was happily involved in the Worcester Center for Crafts for years.

Linda, an only child, was preceded in death by her parents, Ivar and Isabelle Nelson. She leaves a few close cousins and countless friends, many of whom she met through the family business. Times spent with her cousins and their children and grandchildren were highlights in her life. Radiating from her essence were loyalty and love for all, and in turn, Linda was deeply loved by her extended family.

Her family would like to especially thank the many compassionate nurses, doctors and staff at UMass Memorial for their wonderful, gentle care of Linda in her final days.

In keeping with Linda's nature, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in the care of Lindquist Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, Worcester, MA 01607.

During her life, Linda was a generous donor to the arts, and to many charitable organizations. Anyone wishing to honor her life, please consider supporting various worthy organizations of your choice.

I've known Linda for over 60 years! We're only 6 months apart in age. My mother, grandmother, and our family relatives used to gather for picnics and swimming (weather permitting) every Sunday after church. I can remember Linda running around the grounds while her father was busy taking care of the grounds and her mother was minding the store. In later years, I would take my wife and kids down to the Old Holbrook Place almost every summer during the weekends to swim and enjoy the grounds. Linda was such a sweet and kind person who always had a smile for everyone. She always remembered me and would ask about some of my family members who used to frequent the place. I was very sad to hear of her passing and the closing of the Old Holbrook Place. Hopefully, someone will continue to carry the Nelson legacy and reopen the grounds of such a beautiful, serene and tranquil place. For me, the Old Holbrook Place was a slice of Heaven. A place to get away from the city and back in touch with nature. May you find Peace in Heaven, Linda! You are dearly missed.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Linda's passing. I also worked in the pool at the YWCA. She was a very knowledgeable and experienced swim instructor and water exercise instructor. She was always passionate about the arts- music- galleries-and nature and outdoor events. We was a very caring person. I will miss her.

Oh no no no. I just found this today (May 6) when her phone numbers were not working. I've been turning the water on and off at the campground for almost 40 years. Nobody could smile more than Linda. I thought it strange when she did not send a text back after I sent her a link to a very quirky song a month ago. I know she would have liked it as she could appreciate quirky. If you want to listen for her, search YouTube for Tiny Tim, The Other Side.

I met Linda through my retirement job delivering firewood to the Holbrook Campground. I would unload 400 bundles from the truck & she would take them and stake them in her garage. I had difficulty keeping up with her work ethics. During this time, we had many pleasant conversations about her work, her life experiences and her Swedish heritage. Thank you for always offering me a "cup of cold water" on those hot July days. You will be missed.

Our prayers go out to Linda's family. We knew Linda through the campground where for the past 15 years spent several weeks every summer. Linda was always working and always freindly to all. Receiving her selections of pictures through facebook always was appreciated throughout the year. She had a great artistic eye and saw beauty everywhere. To Linda's Family,
So sorry to hear of Linda's passing. Our entire family is so sad of the news. Three generations of our family went to Holbrooks every sunday in the summer. We had alot of great memories and its because of Linda and her parents. We are forever grateful to have had such a beautiful place we could all go to and enjoy summer fun at the lake. Linda was also extremely nice to my daughter Jackie, always making sure she had plenty of ice-cream sandwiches and fudgicals in stock to last the whole summer for Jackie. I will miss all of our chats we had over the years. Linda was a true treasure and she will be forever missed.
Sincerely,
Tina, Jim, Jimmy & Jackie (Fryc) Sadowski

We are so sad to hear of Linda's passing. Like many other families, Linda was a friend for 15 years. Old Holbrook is our home away from home and has a very significant place in our hearts. My daughter was an infant at our first trip there and we've been there twice a year every year since. As fellow artists, Linda shared her talent and advice and projects with us and she will be remembered fondly and greatly missed. Bless her. Our sincerest condolences to her friends and family.
