Lorraine Tegan Obituary

Lorraine A. (DeStefano) Tegan, 69, of Boston, formerly of Northborough, passed away at home on Thursday, February 2, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.

Lorraine is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, John J. Tegan Jr. She was a devoted mother to Patrice McCloskey and her husband Tom of Northborough, John J. Tegan III of Northborough, Karen Padir and her husband Halil of Lexington, Sarah Hogan and her husband Shannon of Lexington. Loving sister to Susan Mellace of Peabody, and Virginia DelGreco of Melrose. Devoted grandmother to 11 grandchildren. Lorraine was born in Revere and raised in Melrose, daughter of the late Amelio and Flora (Dellaporta) DeStefano. She graduated from Melrose H.S. in 1959.

A historian and mathematician, Lorraine took her Bachelor's Degree in History and Education at Regis College and then went on to gain an MST in Mathematics from the University of New Hampshire. She was the founder and co-owner of Communication Technology Services in Marlboro, MA, and had been employed by the towns of Shrewsbury and Durham, N.H. as a mathematics teacher and head of the mathematics department. Among her honors are a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship at Princeton, participation in the Harvard Education Institute at Harvard University and the Tsongas Institute at the University of Lowell as well as the Peter Farrelly Teaching Award (1993).

She was on the Board of Trustees at Regis College. Lorraine was a tutor and mentor for Generations, Inc., and Boston Partners in Education, a committee member of the American Cancer Society, co-chair of the Susan G. Komen "Rally for a Cure" golf tournaments, and a pacesetter in Making Strides for the Breast Cancer walk. She enjoyed skiing, golfing, volunteering, but most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. in Regis College Fine Arts Center, 235 Wellesley Street Weston, MA 02493. Lorraine's Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Regis College Hall Chapel. Burial will be private. I too taught with Lorraine for many years at Shrewsbury,and send my deepest sympathy . Lorraine always had a smile and a cheery "hello" as we passed in the corridor.
