Mary J. "Jan" Tonelli, 92

Grafton/Shrewsbury - Mary Janet (Boyle) Tonelli, 92, passed away July 22, 2021, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home following an illness. Her loving husband of 59 years, Donald P. Tonelli passed away in 2009. Jan leaves her children Paul and his wife Justine, John and his wife Suzanne, Karen Craig and her partner David Singer, and Peter and his wife Noelle. She also leaves her grandchildren Dominic and his wife Rachel, Marco and Matthew Tonelli, Stephanie Bacon and her husband Christopher, Andrew Tonelli, Colin and Francesca Tonelli, and Calvin and Topaz Craig. In addition, Jan leaves her great-grandchildren Matthew and Evan Bacon and Anastasia and Tatiana Tonelli. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Clint "Gig" Rand and many nieces and nephews. Jan was predeceased by her siblings Helen Rand, Patricia Mullaney and Charles Boyle. She was born July 7, 1929, in Worcester, daughter of the late Mary (Johnson) and Charles Boyle. Jan met her husband Don while they were students at Commerce High School, married in 1949 and lived for many years in Grafton and then Shrewsbury. They took memorable trips to Bermuda and spent time at their homes in Naples, Florida and in Yarmouthport on Cape Cod. Jan worked as a receptionist at a legal firm in Worcester for more than 20 years. She was an outstanding baker, voracious reader and always took great pride in her home. Her family extends its love and thanks to the caring staff on the 7th floor at UMass Memorial Medical Center and the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their compassion as they cared for her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, 600 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111. All are welcome to a prayer service for Jan on Monday, July 26th at 3:00 PM at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., N. Grafton, MA 01536. She will then be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery.
