Maurice Knott Obituary

Maurice J. Knott, of Falmouth and formerly of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Sunday, July 27th in Falmouth, after an illness.

His wife, Ellen (Doctor) Knott died in 1977. He leaves his daughter, Peggy Glowacki and her husband Michael of Fitchburg; two granddaughters: Nancy Paulauskas of North Grafton and Karen Stratford of Goffstown, NH; four great grandchildren: Taylor and Tori Paulauskas, and Cole and Sophia Stratford; his longtime friend and companion, Lois Girard of Falmouth; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Peter Knott in 1990 and by his sisters, Dorothy Braitsch and Olive Griffin.

Maurice was born in New York, NY, son of the late John and Helen (Dymock) Knott and grew up in Providence, RI. He later lived in Shrewsbury for many years before moving to Falmouth in 1996. He graduated from Brown University in 1934, and then earned a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Harvard University. He was employed by Brown and Sharpe of Rhode Island, until moving to Massachusetts where he joined Morgan Construction Company, Worcester as a development engineer in the wire machinery division in 1958. As a research engineer in the rolling mill department and a consulting engineer, he was recognized as an expert in rolling mills gears. He continued as an independent consultant after his retirement in 1983, making numerous domestic and international trips to companies using Morgan's steel rolling mills.

While in Falmouth, Maurice enjoyed being near the ocean, gardening and socializing with all of his friends. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church, Shrewsbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Maurice's family on Thursday, July 31st from 10:45-12:15 PM in Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM in the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown, MA 02472, or to the Atria-Woodbriar, c/o Joan, 339 Gifford St., Falmouth, MA 02540 (for activities in the memo).
