Melvin Vanden Akker Obituary
Whitinsville - Mel Vanden Akker, 76, of Northbridge passed away on December 27, 2018 from pancreatic cancer.
Mel was a long-time employee of Raytheon Corporation. Prior to that, he worked as an auto mechanic with his father, brother, and nephew at J&S Motors in Whitinsville.
Mel was born in September of 1942 to the late Stuart and Nellie (Nyeholt) Vanden Akker. He graduated from Northbridge High School and Worcester Industrial Technical Institute.
Mel is survived by his daughters, Sherri Vanden Akker (Malcolm Coles) of Reading and Krystyn-Jo White of Wakefield; a brother, Stuart Vanden Akker (Deborah); a sister, Catherine Schaaphok; a brother-in-law, Herman Oosterman; three grandchildren, Madelaine, Margaret and Max; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Marge Smith. He was predeceased by his sister Wilma (Oosterman) and brother Raymond.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 10 AM – 12 Noon in the Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church, 25 Cross St., Whitinsville followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon in the church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Linwood Ave., Whitinsville. After burial, a reception will be held at the church.
