Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Michael A. Cerrone US Army Captain.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Mike was the first upperclassman to take my plebe roommate and I (Class of 2005) under his wing and mentor us. I'll never forget it - Eli and I had just joined E-1 (Go Vikings!) upon returning from Beast. We were typical scatterbrained plebes, highly motivated, eager to prove our worth, and trying to get the lay of the land in our new cadet company. One night, Mike came down to our room after taps and told us to report to his room asap. We thought we were in trouble and tried frantically to figure out what we'd done. Instead, Mike sat us down for some after-hours mentoring (and possibly a night cap). As I recall, he told Eli and me that he saw in us kindred future Infantry officers and began to teach us what it means to be an infantry leader. We were all close friends from that point forward. In the years that followed, Eli and I would often head out on weekends with Mike, eventually in his midnight blue GTO. Hacienda in nearby Bear Mountain was a favorite spot. It was our own little band of brothers, future Infantry officers, always talking shop and chomping at the bit to make our way out into "real Army."

Mike was the consummate professional and selfless servant leader, the embodiment of the "Follow me!" ethos. But even before all that, he was my friend and brother-in-arms. It was my privilege to have known him.
He is not, and shall never be, forgotten.

Mike, we follow, close order, behind you, where you have pointed the way. Be thou at peace, brother.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Cerrone Family,

I was greatly saddened to hear of the loss of Michael. I remember him as a little boy in Lexington, Virginia from long ago. I had the priviledge of babysitting Michael and Tony when the family was at VMI. I'm sure Michael grew up to be a fine young man and bravely made the ultimate sacrifice. I know he made you proud. I pray that God keeps you close each and every day.

Our HEROS will NEVER be forgotten.Rest well brother,That star spangled banner will FOREVER wave.Your name stamped in steel forever clutched in the tallons,And spirit will FOREVER soar high in the skies in the symbol of our great nation..

August 15, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I apologize for the lateness of this expression of sympathy. Last October, my son was deployed for the third time to Iraq. Being in denial and depression, I did not watch the news or turn the TV for months.
You have suffered a loss I cannot even begin to imagine. I hope that the prayers and expressions of sympathy from strangers, helps you to know that others care and share in your loss.
May Michael rest in peace. May you gain comfort knowing that others, like my son, honor the memory of your son, by continuing to serve.

Roger Anderson

June 19, 2007

As I was sitting outside my store the other day, a girl ran by and said Hi to me. Then she stopped her run and came back to me and said, "You have no idea who I am, do you?" To my shame and sorrow, she was correct. But she told me she was my Godmother Janet's daughter Lynn. She is my cousin! To my great pleasure, we talked for quite a while and it was so nice.
But then Lynn told me of Michael's death in Iraq. Now it is with great regret that I write, having missed the funeral of my cousin Jimmy's son and my chance to have expressed my heartfelt sorrow for your loss.
As life went, my parents got divorced and I fell from contact with the Farrar and Anderson family. My Dad was George E. 'Skippy' Anderson and I can tell you with honesty that my Dad thought very highly of Jimmy and his career in the army. Often he would talk of my cousin Jimmy and how good he was doing in the army. How proud my Dad was of you Jimmy. But my Dad did not get to tell me about Michael, for my Dad, your Uncle George, died in 1996 as you know. Now I find out that my little cousin Jimmy has gone up the ranks to become a Brig. General. Wow, where did the time go? How is it that we have all grown so much older and the distance I feel has become so vast? How is it that it never occurred to me that my little cousin Jimmy would have grown so and had children of his own and now there has been such a great, awful, terrible loss full of such pain and sorrow? How sad I feel that this has happened. My heart cries with yours though I know I cannot even imagine the emptiness and sadness that you feel and compared to yours, my tears must be shallow though how deep they are.
It is such times as these that we must trust in our God, for He always knows what is best. I was not there when he made the rivers and mountains, the oceans and seas, the forests and deserts. I cannot even comprehend "Always was". How am I to understand the great "I AM" and His ways? All I can do is to trust in Him and in His love for me and believe that all that happens is meant to be. How hard it is to do so at times I know. But what else is there for me to do when I know in my heart that God is true?
Please know that I also am very sorry for your loss.

I know I am late with this, but I was broken up to hear about the passing of Mike. We went through IOBC together and spent many a day and night out around the Columbus downtown area and out at Auburn. I also was very close to Allie Weiskopf (we went to BC together) and i know that she and Mike were vey close. Mike was a great kid, funny and classy. He would always go out of his way to make someone else's day better. I always used to look for Mike's father to ask him to tell his son hello for me. The last time I remember vividly was at the pool at the Ft. Polk O Club. I never got to say goodbye to Mike before he left, and I hate that. Mike, you are and always will be missed. Your family from IOBC and from FT Bragg misses you and will never forget what a great person you were. You made a difference to the people you met. I know that where you are now is a far better place than anywhere here. Thank you for all that you have done, you are truly a hero! And to the Cerrone family, God bless you and stay strong!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

My Deepest and most heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of 1st Lt. Michael A. Cerrone.
The price this young hero and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
There is so much thanks to be given, to these young heroes, for their Courage, Service and Dedication.

May Michael rest safely in God's Care and may God's Loving Comfort and Grace be with the Cerrone family.
I am the sister of such a young hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

May you find strength in your faith, comfort in God's love, and peace in knowing this country is praying for you.

"Wait on the Lord, be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart"
Psalm 27:14

November 28, 2006

To the Family of 1st Lt. Michael A. Cerrone:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
