Raymond Barbera Obituary

Dr. Raymond E. Barbera, 90, of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, after a long decline.

Dr. Barbera was a professor emeritus at Clark University, where he taught comparative literature and Spanish literature for over thirty years. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Barbera served in the U.S. Air Force as a communications officer in the Pacific during World War II. He was an avid tennis player, violinist, and reader. He maintained his passion for learning and teaching throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Pina Barbera, five children, six grandchildren, a sister Inez Sainz, and his brother, Charles Barbera.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 16th at 10:00 AM in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 15th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Theodore and Phyllis Barbera Fund, an award for the outstanding graduating senior in Spanish studies at Clark University.
