Richard G. Ruby Sr.

Grafton - Richard G. "Dick" Ruby, Sr., 75, passed away June 16, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Patricia (Ryerson), his daughter Denise L'Esperance and her husband Philippe, son Richard G. Ruby, Jr. and his wife Jane, grandchildren Richard G. Ruby, III, Samantha C. Ruby, Aaron C. L'Esperance, Elizabeth A. L'Esperance, Philippe R. L'Esperance, Jr. and Grace I. Ruby. Dick was born September 9, 1938 in Worcester, MA, son of the late Mathilda (Giroux) and George R. Ruby. He grew up in the Grafton St. neighborhood in the city and graduated from Classical High School. Dick was best known for his instrumental role in building the retail and wholesale marine industry in New England. He dedicated 44 years of his life to operating several businesses, including Ruby Marines, RG Ruby Associates, R&B Distributing and East Nor East Marine Sales. He and his wife Pat lived in Grafton for many years, having raised their family there before moving briefly to Florida shortly after retiring before relocating back to New England. On weekends Dick could be found fishing, and for a time piloting his CESSNA 172 plane. Those who knew Dick will remember how he was happiest when surrounded by a group of his close friends and family. He was devoted to his church, St. Philip's in Grafton where he was a Eucharistic minister and Parish Council Member. Dick also was a member of the Mass Marine Trades and National Marine Representatives Association in addition to the Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury. In lieu of traditional remembrances his family requests donations to MetroWest Homecare & Hospice 200 Nickerson Road Marlborough, MA 01752.

CALLING HOURS & FUNERAL MASS

All are invited to gather with Dick's family and friends Thursday June 19th from 4pm to 7pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday June 20th at 11:00am at St. James Church 89 Main St. S. Grafton, MA 01560. All those attending the Funeral Mass are politely requested to go directly to the church. He will then be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in South Grafton.
