Richard J. White

Richard J. White, age 79, of Haines City, FL, passed away at his home from cancer on July 4, 2009 surrounded by his family.

He and his beloved wife, Doris Broughton White were formerly of Worcester Ma and were looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on September 3rd of this year. He is survived by his wife and their six children, Jacquelyn White Supernor of Dunedin, Fl, Timothy G White of Littleton, Colorado, Patricia White of Holden, Ma, Daniel White of Worcester, Ma, Catherine White of Davenport, Fl and Thomas White of Celebration, Fl, fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Richard was born in Worcester, Ma on Sept. 15, 1929 to Edmund and Margaret (Banner) White. He served in the army in World War 11 and after discharge in 1947 went to work at Johnson Steel and Wire Co. starting as a furnace hand and rising to the position of general foreman. In 1982 he retired and moved with his family to Winter Haven, Fl where he was employed as a curator at the Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales, Fl, until his retirement in 1992. In the latter years they lived in Sweetwater Golf and Tennis retirement community where he became an avid golfer, loved talking with his many good friends and neighbors and tending his gardens.

A memorial mass will be held at St Ann's Catholic Church in Haines City, Fl at 9:00 AM, July 19th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cancer Research Center.
